@In ttehule referat in in tigen Enters atnit mit mating part nt tin same.
TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY'COCERN:
Be it known that we, M. R. SHALTI'JRs and SAMUEL RAY, of Alliance, in the county of Star-Land in the State of Ohio, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in DoublefShovel Ploughs; anddo hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters .of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings,- aking part of this specification, A A represent the two handles ot' a shovelplough, which benddownwards at their lower'ends, as represented, and have secured to these ends the shovels IB B, thus dispensing with` standards or Shanks, other than the handles themselves. D represents a T-shaped box, which is cast hollow. i The rear end of the beam is fitted into the leg of this box, while two braces, C C, l
each of which has one 'end secured to the inside oi Veach of the handles, pass each other through the wings of the box. A set-screw, a, serves to secure the braces .C C at any desired point within the boxD. G represents a tube, which is secured to one ofthe handles near its outer end, and H is a rod, which ispassed into said tube, having one end 'secured to the other handle. A set-screw confines the rod to the tube, when desirable. By means'of the braces C C, and the rod and tube H andG, the handles, and consequently the shovels, are set wider-apart or closer together. F F represent two braces,` which are slotted at one end, and are confined by n, bolt to the beamA E, through these slots. The other 'ends of these braces are secured to the handles A A. These braces are slotted, in order to accommodatelthernselves to the extension or contraction ot' the'handles A.
It will readily be perceived that, by means of this arrangement and construction, a very cheap, efficient adjustable double-shovel plough s made.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The T-shaped box D, for forming the main frame of a double-shovel plough, substantially as herein set forth.
`2. `In combination with the box D, the braces C C and handles A A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The arrangement of the braces F' F, C'C, and the rod Hand tube G, with the handles, and beam for contracting and expanding the frame, substantially as'herein set forth.'
simple, and
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands, this day of 1867,
M. R. SHALTERS, SAMUEL RAY. Witnesses:
C. M. ALEXANDER, J. M. MASON.
