IMPROVEMENT IN LATHE-TOOL.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thntI; Tnoxss. SHAW, of the city and county ot'Philodelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented y a new and improved Lathe-Tool; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and erect description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon. My invention consists in the modeof inserting cutter-bits intool-holder in the manner and for the purpose as hereafter described.
'In order to enable others to use and practise my invention, I will proceedto'describe its construction and operation. On reference to the accompanying drewing,gwhieh forms part of the specification- Fignre 1 represents a side view of tool, and Figure 2 a top view on liner 8 of fig. 1. Figure 8, a top view. Similar letters refer to similar pertspof'whieh a is the tool-holder and 6 the cutter-bit, end'c a wedge, all for the purpose as hereafter described.

Itwjll be observed that holder at is dove-tailed for holding bit'b securely in one direction, and that wedge- -.c"is provided with a lip on its under and smaller end, on which bit 6 rests, and if the bit is hammered or forced down, it carries wedge c with it, until the whole is securely held by reason of pressure of wedge.
It will be evident that this tool will'answer as well for planer-s as for the lathes.
