PATENT OFFICE.
COUCH-DISPLAY TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,770, dated January 5, 1904.
Application filed October 28, 1903. Serial No. 178,556. (No model.)
To all whom iii-may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. MONTGOMERY, a resident of Silvercreek, in the county of Chautauqua andState of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Couch-Display Trucks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved couchdisplay truck, the object of the invention being to provide an improved truck of this character on which a couch can be effectually secured and supported in an upright or vertical position and which will enable the couch to be drawn down to a horizontal position without disconnecting it from the truck; and with this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved truck with a couch secured thereon in a vertical position. Fig. 2 is a view showing the couch drawn down to a horizontal position. Fig. 3 is a view illustrating the truck with couch removed, and Fig. 4 is a view illustrating a modification.
My improved truck comprises a rectangular tubular frame 1, composed of pipes or tubes connected at their ends by couplings,
as shown, and supported on rollers or casters 2. Uprights 3 are secured to the forward ends of frame 1 by couplings 4L, and clamping crossbars 5 (preferably of wood) are located on uprights 3 and adapted to be moved free thereon. The lower bar 5 is held against downward movement by means of collars 6, adjustably secured on the uprights by set-screws 7, or it might be secured by set-screws passed directlyinto the bar and against the uprights, as shown in Fig. 4:, and hence I do not restrict myself to any particular means for securing the lower bar 5 at varying adjustments. A clamping-bolt 8 passes through the bars 5 at theircenters and hasa set-nut9 thereon above the upper bar to effectually clamp the bars in any position.
The operation of my improvements is as follows: The head end of a couch is supported on frame 1 of the truck, and the legs are secured between bars 5 by means of clampingbolt 8 and set-nut 9, the lower bar 5 being previously adjusted to exactly position the couch. The couch when so secured on the truck can be supported in a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 1, to occupy comparatively small space in storage and facilitate its being displayed and can be readily drawn to a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, when desired without disconnecting the truck.
The opposite engaging faces of bars 5 are preferably rounded to conform to the shape of the couch-legs, but may be made flat or 7 other shape, as preferred.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing, from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A couch display truck comprising a frame mounted on rollers and provided at one end with uprights, two clamping-bars mounted to move freely on said uprights, means for adjusting the position on one of said clamping-bars on said uprights and means for moving the other clamping-bar toward the firstmentioned clam ping-bar to clamp the legs of a couch between said bars.
2. A couch display truck comprising a frame consisting of two parallel members and a member connecting the parallel members at one end, uprights secured to the free ends of the parallel members of the frame, two parallel clamping-bars mounted on said uprights, means for adjusting the position of the lower clamping-bar and a screw for moving the upper clamping-bar toward the lower clampingbar.
3. In a conch display truck, the combination with a tubular frame supported on rollers, of tubular uprights on said frame at one end, a bar mounted on said uprights, setscrews adjustably securing said bar at any In testimony whereof I have signed this position and adapted to position the same to specification in the presence of two subscribengage one side of the couch-legs, another ing witnesses.

and set-nut to clamp the couch-legs between GEORGE P. GASTON,
