Be it known that I, MARY MERRILL, of Marengo, in the county of McHenry, end State of Illinois, have invented a new andimprovecIDevce for Scouring Knives, Forks-fand other articles of table und genernl cutiery; und Ido declare that the Followingis a. full sind exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in providing a box, made of tin, or other metal, about two inches long, round or oval in shape, and having its upper end covered by n lid or cover of the same materiel. There is also an inner box or casing, E, and between the two the scouring-material passes, through sieves a-b. The upper portion of the box is filled with Water-lime, sand, brick-dust,4or other mnt'eriabcommonly used for scouringa which passes through the sieves, und is delivered from the bottom of the box by'its motion when being` used, A piece'o` rubber or cork, C, inserted at the bottom of the box, und extending a. short distance beloiv it, is used for scouring the knife or otherbrticle of cutlery, as more clearly shown by the drawing. Thel rubber or cork is made flat at one end, for scouring knives, and rounded at the other, for scouring forks andspoons. It is held in position by a rod, a, and may be reversed et pleasure, for the purposes named.
