Description
J. COLLIN-S, Jr. MACHINE FOR GETTING BAGS.

Letters Patent 1Y0. 74,506, dated February 18, 1868. I
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE IOR OUTTINGBAGS.
Bite gimme nfimh in in flgm flatten smut mt making mmat 111i smut.
. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known-that I, JOHN GOLIiINS, Jr., of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines-for Cutting Rags; and I do declu're that the following is' a true and accurate description'thereof, reference being had to the accomunnying drawings, and to the letters oi'- reference marked thereon, and fneking a. part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to improve upon machines already patented-by me'foea. similar purpose.
In order that those skilled in the art may he able to construct my machine, I still new describe-it.
A is a table, sustained by aproper frame, of sufficient strength to carry the workingpnrts of the machine. 13 is a driving-pulley, placeduponva. proper shaft, 0, which gives motion by means of the belt to the small Pill.
ley, D, and its proper shaft, upon which is hung the revolving cutter E. The end ct this shaft, upon which is hung the cutter-E, is turned down at F, and drives as it revolves, by friction or otherwise, as may be most desirable, the wheel G, which is hung upon a proper shaft, upon which are placed the feed-rollers H. I is s. spring guard, which sets over the cutter, and presses the cloth to be operated upon against the'fced-rollers, which msy be made smooth or corrugated, as circumstances require, and is so constructed with}. shit upon its under hearingsurface, that it holds the cloth until the cutter has done its work. .Figure 1 is a. perspective view of my improvement.
Figure 2. is e view-from the bottom of the same. 7 The same letters of reference indicate like pa rts ineach figure.
Figure is a. side view of the revolving cutter, which is constructed in the-shape of a. thumb-cam, and can be sharpened at any time while in motion, and without being taken out.
The cloth to be 0 erated u on has heretofore been drawn towards the o erator b hand, re uirin one P P P y l a:
hand on each side the cutter to guide and hold the cloth against the cutter. In this lmprovcnient I provide the feed-rollers, which carry, and the springsguard, which holds the cloth, "thus relieving one hand of the operator.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The spring-guard I, feed-roller H, and cutter E, combined and operating together substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. v
2. The combination of the cutter E, spring-guard I, andfeed-roller H, with the table A, the drivingwheel B, shaft 0, pulley D, and wheel G, all constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose descrihcd.
