SPEGIFIGATION forming part of letters Patent No. 744,072, dated November 17, 1903. Application filed August 18, 1903. fierial N0.169,913. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST F. HEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Postville, in the county of Allamakee and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fence-posts,and has for its object to provide a strong and durable post and improved means for fastening the fence-wires thereto.
A further object is to provide means for taking up any slack in the wires, thus enabling them to be maintained at a proper tension.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 indicates a metal. post having a side 6, from which parallel flanges 7 and 8 project. The flange 8 is bent at right angles, so as to extend parallel to the side 6, as at 9. The wires of one side of the fence are wound on shafts 10, supported in the-flanges 7 and 8, while the wires of the other side of the fence are wound on similar shafts extending at an angle-to the first mentioned between the portions 6 and 9.
The ends of the shafts are Having thus described my invention, whatis claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
A fence-post having projecting integral parallel flanges on one side thereof along the entire length of the post, one of said flanges having an extension parallel to said side, and winding-shafts for the fence-wires supported therein at an angle to each other, substantially as described.
