In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the short-circuiting device consists of a lever S, pivoted at s and connected to the conductor This lever is moved to and fro by the pin '1 on the shaft 0 and makes and breaks contact with the terminals U U, which are connected to the main 1. The breaking and making of engagement with the contacts U U energizes and deenergizes the exciting coil or windings, producing the results before described.
What I claim is 1. A time-beater consisting of the combination of a magnetic circuit having an oscillat: ing portion, a spring limiting the movement of said oscillating portion in both directions and tending to return it to a definite position, windings for magnetizing said portion connected to a source of current, a short circuit around said windings, and means for periodically making and breaking said short circuit and thereby energizing and denergizing said windings.
2. A time-beater consisting of the combination of a magnetic circuit having an oscillating portion normally out of alinement with the other part of said circuit, a spring limiting the movement of said oscillating portion in both directions and tending to return it to a definite position out of alinement with the other part of said circuit, windings for magnetizing said magnetic circuit connected to a source of current, ashort circuit around said windings, means forperiodically making and breaking said short circuit and thereby magnetizing and demagnetizing said magnetic circuit. A time-beater consisting of the combination of a magnetic circuit having an oscillating portion normally out of engagement with the other part of said circuit, a spring limiting the movement of said oscillating portion in both directions and tending to return it to a definite position out of alinement with the other part of said circuit, windings for magnetizing said magnetic circuit connected to a source of current, a short circuit around said windings, means for periodically making and breaking said short circuit,and thereby magnetizing and demagnetizing said magnetic circuit, and a resistance in series with said windings and short circuit.
4:. In combination an electromagnetic device having stationary and movable members with windings for energizing the same, a time-beater having a movable member and windings for energizing the same, and means operated by said movable member for periodically energizing and denergizing the windings of said time-beater and causing the movable member of said electromagnetic device to oscillate.
5. In combination, an electromagnetic device having stationary and movable members with windings for energizing the same, a time-beater having a movable member and windings for energizing the same and means operated by said second movable member for periodically short-circuiting the energizingwindings of said electromagnetic device and time-beater.
6. In combination, an electromagnetic device having stationary and movable members with windings for energizing the same, a time-beater having a movable member and windings for energizing the same and means operated by said second movable member for periodically short-circuiting the energizingwindings of said electromagnetic device and time-beater and a resistance in series with said windings and short circuit.
7. A device having a fixed period of oscillation consisting of a stationary member and relatively movable member forming parts of a magnetic circuit, windings for magnetizing the same, a circuit therefor, two terminals connected to one side of said windings and a lever connected to the other side and means operated by said movable member for causing said lever to make and break contact with said terminals alternatively and a spring tending to return said movable member to a definite position.
