JAMES MOORE, OF HANOVER, ILLINOIS.
CHURN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,297,
dated September 29, 1903.
Application filed April 27, 1903. Serial No. 154,557. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hanover, in the county of Jo Daviess and State ofIllinoi's, have invented certain new and useful Immovements in Ohurns, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in churns, and refers particularly to a novel form of dasher designed for use in a rotarybody churn. V
O'ne object of my invention is the provision of a churn in which the dasher can be easily adjusted to fit the body or receptacle of the churn, which will remain in position, and
which can be easily applied and removed.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a dasher which can be made in va-- rious forms, as circumstances require, which will be thoroughly efficient in operation, and which can be produced at a very low price.
To attain these objects my invention consists of a churn-dasher embodying novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as substantially disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a side view of achurn, partly broken away to show my dasher in position therein. Fig. 2 represents a perspective-view of my dasher detached. Fig. 3 represents a side view of a modified form of mydasher, and Fig. 4 represents a detail view of the adjusting device for holding the sections of the dasher.
In the drawings, Adesignates the frame or support of my churn, having bearings B to receive the journal 0 on the body or receptacle D, which is provided with a crank E for rotating saidbody. The body is provided with a mouth oropening F, forming a rim G, and fitting in the opening is the cover H.
Mynovel dasher consists of the two sections, each composed of the parallel bars J connected by rungs J ,upon which are mountthe auxiliary bars ed the revolving paddles or agitators J and the sections are hinged together by means of the screw or clamping device K, which comprises the screvwcap" K, having the bindingscrew K and the clamping-nut K which is engaged by the screw-cap, andthis device firmly holds the sections in any desired adjustmentlaccording to the shape and sizeof the churn. In the form of my dasher shown in Fig. 3 I provide, in addition to the bars J, L, which carry a series of rotating paddles or agitators M.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the operation of my churn will be readilyuuderstood, and it is evident that the body is revolved by means of the crank and'that the wheels or agitators rapidly revolve and effect a quick churning of the cream and produce the butter in a rapid manner without fatiguing the operator.
I claim-- 1. A churn-support consisting of the frame, the body mounted inrthe frame, the crank for revolving the body, the dasher arranged in the body and composed of a series of hinged sections, revolving paddles or agitators mounted in said sections, and a clamping device for securing the sections in any desired adjustment.
2. A'churn-dasher composed of two hinged sections, the revolving paddles or agitators mounted in said sections and the clamping device for securing the sections in any desired adjustment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of witnesses.
JAMES MOORE.
