SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersY Patent No. 739,241, dated September 15, 1903. Application filed November 25, 1902. Serial No. 132,756. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern: l
Be it known that I, PENNOCK MARSHALL WAY, a citizen of the UnitedStates,.residing at Tallapoosa, in the county of Haralson vand State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Saw, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates more particularly to Y that class known as bucksaws; and the object `though it will be evident that changes may be made from the structure shown and described.

In the present embodiment the frame is preferably constructed of la single piece of wire bent to form'saw-holding arms 10 and 11 and the usual intermediate brace-bar 12.
' The manner of forming the blank will be clearly evident by reference to Fig. 2. It will be seen that the brace-bar 12 consists of two strands, the saw-holding arms being in the form of elongated loops located at the ends of the bar 12 and arranged in convergentrelation. These arms also each comprise double strands which are spaced apart to form two members 13 and 14. For the purpose of distinguishing between these parts the arm 10 will hereinafter be. designated the front arm, while the arm 11 may properly be termed the handle arm.
, A clip 15 surrounds lthe upper end of the front arm 10 and is provided with an opening 16 therethrough, which is located in the space .between the two members 13 and 14. An-
other clip 17 surrounds an intermediate portion of thefront arm 10 and has through its inside wall an opening 18 to permit the passage of the strands of the brace-bar. Still another clip 19 islocated at the lower end of the front arm, being held in place by a fastening-bolt20, which passes through openings 21, that aline with the space between the members`l13 and 14. The handle-arm 11 is in like manner provided with three clips,` the uppermost 22 corresponding with the clip 15 of the front arm and being provided with an elongated portion 23, whioh surrounds the members and constitutes a handle. The inter- Ymediate clip 24 is of the saine construction as the intermediate clip 17 of the front arm, and
"the lower clip 25 is provided with a fasteningbolt 26, which passes through the space between the two members of said handle-arm. VThis clip is also provided with an extension 27,- forming the lower handle, which exten- Vsion surrounds the wires that are made long enough for this purpose.
The strands of the brace-bar may also be connected .by an intermediate loop 28, which serves to prevent their spreading apart under the compression strain.
Connecting the upper ends of the arms 10 and 11 is the usual tension-bar, consisting of sections29, the outer ends of which are provided with hooks 30, that engage in the opening 16 of the upper clip, the inner ends of said sections being threaded, as shown at 3l, and connected by a turnbuckle 32. AI suitable saw-blade 33 is attached to the'lower ends of the arms by means of the fastening-bolts 20 and 26,4above described, the ends of the blade being preferably located within the clips, as shown in Fig. 4.
AIn View of the fact that this frame can be constructed of a single wire and sheet-metal clips it will be evident that it may be manufactured at small cost. By employing the eX- tensionsv 23 and 27 handles of sufficient size are obtained which will prevent the wires chang or cutting the hands of the operator. The structure, furthermore, is4 very rigid because of the employment of the spaced members connected in the manner shown by brac- IOC ing-clips. It should also be noted that the well-known shape is retained, as is also the adjusting or tightening means for the saw-blade.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein-described invention Will be apparent to those skilled in the art Without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a bucksaw-frame, spaced saw-holding arms, one of which comprises spaced members arranged side by side, a brace-bar connected to intermediate portions of the arms, and a saw and tension-bar connected respectively to the ends of the arms.
2. In a bu cksaW-frame, spaced saw-holding arms, one of Which comprises spaced members arranged side by side, a clip connecting the members between their ends, and a bracebar connected to the arms and attached to the clip.
3. In a bucksaw-frame, spaced saw-holding arms, one of which comprises spaced substantially parallel members, and clips connecting the ends ot' the members, in combination with a saw connected to one of the clips and a tension-bar connected to the other clip.
4. In a bucksaW-frame, spaced saw-holding arms, one of which comprises spaced members arranged side by side, and a clip bridging the space between and connecting the members, said clip constituting a handle.
5. In a bucksaw-frame, spaced saw-holding arms, one of which comprises spaced substantially parallel members, clips connecting the ends of the members, in combination with a saw connected to one of the clips, and a tension-bar connected to the other clip, said clips each surrounding the members and constituting handles.
6. A bucksaW-frame formed of Wire and comprising saw-holding arms, and an intermediate brace-bar connecting the arms and formed integral therewith.
7. A bucksaW-frame formed of a single wire bent to form spaced saw-holding arms,
and an intermediate brace-bar connecting the arms. l
8. A bucksaw-frame formed of a single Wire bent to form spaced saw-holding arms, and an intermediate brace-bar connecting the arms, said bar and arms each comprising a plurality of distinct strands.
9. A bucksaW-frame formed of Wire and comprising saw-holding arms, and a bracebar connectingr them, said arms each consisting of spaced members and clips connecting the members.
lO. A bucksaw-frame formed of wire and comprisingr saw-holding arms, and a bracebar connecting them, said arms each consistingof spaced members and clips surrounding the ends of the members and intermediate portions thereof.
ll. A bucksaW-frame formed of Wire and comprising saw-holding arms, and a bracebar connecting them, said arms each consisting of spaced members and clips surrounding the ends of the members and intermediate portions thereof, in combination with a tension-bar having hooks that engage certain of the end clips, and a saw connected to the other end clips.
12. A bucksaW-frame formed of wire and comprising saw-holding arms and a bracebar connecting them, said arms each consisting,r of spaced members, and clips surrounding the ends of the members and intermediate portions thereof, in combination with a tension-bar having terminal hooks that engage certain of the end clips, a saw, and bolts passing through the other end clips to secure the saW to the arms.
13. In a bucksaw frame, spaced arms, one of said arms comprising spaced members, a clip bridging the space. between and connecting the members, said clip constituting a handle, and a saw connected to said clip.
14:. In a bucksaW-frame, spaced arms, one of said arms comprising separate members, a clip connecting the members, and a saw secured to the clip.
