f MONEY-Box.
SPECIFICATION forming part of i Letters Patent No. 738,736, dated September 8, 1903. Application led April 3, 1903. Serial No. 150,882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. STEINMETZ, a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain `new and useful Improvements in Money-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to the construction of a metal box adapted for hold- 1o ing coins; and its primary objects are to provide a receptacle having parts that are readily formed and assembled to provide strength and security.
The nature and characteristic features of the invention will more fully appear by reference to the following description and the accompanying drawings in illustration thereof,
' of which- Figure 1 represents a plan view of a box Fig. 2 represents a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 represents a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the box A comprises the sections A and A2, which are joined in abutting relation on the line a a. The sections thus joined have therein a reinforcing member A3, which conforms to the inner conl tour of the section A2 and extends into the 3o section A', lapping the joint formed on the -line at a between the sections. These parts are soldered `or welded together at the joint ct a., so as to form a solid construction. The
top of the section A2 is provided with the aperture a?, and the top of the member A3 is provided with the aperture a3, which is made smaller than the aperture a2 to provide a seat a4 for a' lid B. This lid is provided with the curved members B', having the hooks or lugs 4o B? and Ba thereon, the members extending at right angles to the plane of the lid and lying in the notches a5, formed in the seat a4. The members B when the lid is turned turn in being integrally connected with the lid B, and
the parts are readily assembled and secured together to provide a strong box having a secret hinge.
Having'described my invention, I claiml. A receptacle formed of two abutting members, one of which has a lid opening therein, a member fitting within the section having the lid opening and extending into the abutting section to lap the joint formed thereby,
said member providing a seat, and a lid supported by said seat and adapted to close said opening, substantially as specified.
2. A receptacle comprising two stamped sheet-metal sections joined in abutting relation, a member fitting within one of said sections and extending into the other so as to lap the joint formed by the abutting sections, an aperture formed in one of said sections, alid adapted to close said aperture, a seat formed by said member for supporting said lid, and a curved hinge projecting inwardly from said lid and adapted to move in a recess formed in said seat, said recess engaging said hinge to control the movement of said lid,`sub stantially as speciiied.
` In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 1st day of April, A. D. 1903.
