PUMP-HOUSING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 737,182, dated August 25, 1903. Application filed August 15, 1901. Serial No. 72,103. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN M. WEBSTER, a
' citizen of the United States of America, and
, formed of sheet metal oblong in cross-seca resident of Cincinnati, in the county ofHamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump-Housin gs, of which the following is a specification.
The objectof myiuvention is a pump-housing the base of which has a horizontal flange to rest upon a cistern-top and a vertical extension below the flange to fit snugly against the sides of the hole in the cistern-top and is neat in appearance and simple, firm, and inexpensive in construction.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are indicated by similar referenceletters, Figure l is a detail perspective view of the base of a pump-housing embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view' of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken upon line 2 a, Fig. 2.
Referring to the parts, pump-housing A is tion and in its construction near its base bent outward in a horizontal flange a, which encircles the housing. Below flange aisleft a straight vertical extension a in alinement with the walls of the housing above flange 0.. Over extension or is slipped-a tubular section B, having a vertical portion 1) to flt snugly against extension (1, leaving a portion a of extension a projecting below its lower edge and having a broad horizontal flange b to abutagainst flange a. Portion a is then bent uparound the lower edge of portion b, securingsection B firmly between flange a and portion a In use the lowerend of housing A, formed by extension 0., and portion 1) of section 13 fit snugly against the sides of holes 0 in cisterntop C, while horizontal flange b sets firmly upon its top, forming a firrn brace againstany sidewise movement in the housing due to the actuation of the pump-crank. The several the curb-opening; a body portion having an annular bead near its lower end adapted to seat and rest upon the flange, the body portion below the bead fitting within the tubedownwardly-projecting tube-section within thicknesses of metal give a stiffness and section of the flange, substantially as shown and described. 2. A pump-housing having near its lower end an outwardly-projecting horizontal flange and a vertical extension below the flange upturned at its lower end, a separate section, having a vertical portion surrounding said vertical section between the horizontal flange and the upturned end and a broad horizon tal flange to abut against said outwardly-projecting flange, substantially as shown and described.
JOHN M. 'WEBSTER.
