Description

No. 73 ,109. PATBNTED AUG. '11, 1903.
N R. JONES.
NECK YoKB,
APPLICATION FILED APR. 14, 1903.
no MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented August 11, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
NECK-YQK-E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,109, dated. August 11, 1903.
Application filed April 14, 1903.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RUFUS JONES, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in neck-yokes; and the.
object of the invention is primarily to provide a yoke by means of which the strain is so distributed as to cause no pinching upon the neck of the animal, which is a serious objection to the neck-yokes of ordinary pole form.
A further object of my invention is to provide a neck-yoke which may be easily and advantageously employed either on breaststrap double harness or with the form of harness embodying a collar and hames.
Briefly described, my invention comprises a yoke member which is preferably made of several plies of leather stitched or otherwise secured together. This yoke member or piece is substantially triangular in form and is pro vided in its lower lobe with an opening to receive the end of the pole and in its upper two lobes with openings through which are passed the neck-straps for attachment to the harness. Means is also provided whereby the neck member or piece is detachably connected to the pole of the carriage to prevent accidental disengagement therefrom.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and wherein like numerals of reference will be employed for designating like parts throughout both views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective'view showing the device in use for double harness of the breaststrap type. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the neck-yoke member or piece, showing the se-' curing-straps in perspective and partly broken away.
Serial No. 152,493. (No model.)
' To put my invention into practice, I provide a yoke member or piece 1, made of pliable material, such as leather. In order to give the required strength and rigidity, this piece or member is preferably composed of a plurality of layers which are stitched or otherwise secured together. This member or yokepiece is substantially triangular in shape, the depending lobe 2 thereof having an opening 3 to receive the tip or end of the carriage or other pole. The upper two lobes at of the member or piece 1 are each provided with an opening through which are passed the securing-straps 5 for attachment to the harness. A strap 6 is attached to the rear face of the neck-yoke member or piece 1 for attachment to a buckle carried by the pole of the vehicle, or the strap may be attached to the pole and the buckle to the member or piece 1. The employment of a member or yoke-piece of this form gives a neat appearance, and
the member or piece 1 being flexible will give Patent, is-
A neck-yoke of approximately rectangular contour having its corners provided with lobes, said lobes being formed with openings, said neck-yoke being formed of a plurality of flexible layers secured together.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence'of two witnesses.
RUFUS JoNEs.
