OLE H. GROSLAND, OF KENSETT, IOWA.
CLOTHES-LINE CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 732,293, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed August 6, 1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLE H. GROSLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kensett, in the county of Worth and State of Iowa, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to clothes-line clamps and more particularly to that class of inventions designed for holding the clothes-line in properly-stretched position.
The obj ect of the invention is to providea device of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and efficien in action. 7
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my device in use. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view through the'device, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the frame or casing of the device, which consists, preferably, of a piece of sheet metal, of proper thickness and strength, bent upon itself to form side pieces 2.
3 denotes a sheath or roller journaled between the side pieces, and 4: denotes a clampby .a spring 5 downward to clamp the clothes line or rope 6 between the serrated face of the jaw and the sheath. This clamp is provided with a laterally-projecting finger-piece or handle 7.
8 denotes a bail or other device by means of which the clamp may be attached to a hook, or any other suitable means for attaching the device in place in operative position may be used. The clothes-line is passed about the sheath, as shown in Fig. 1, and tightened upon the free end of the line and will be held in its tightened or stretched position by the jaw, which is forced down against the rope and pins the rope between the serrated face of the jaw and the sheath. The
handle or thumb-piece of the jaw is operated Serial No. 113,647. (No model.)
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clothes-line clamp comprising a vertical frame formed of a back and side walls, a roller journaled between the side walls below the center of the frame and adapted to support the line which passes over the roller and projects downward between the same and back wall, a clamping-jaw pivoted between the side walls above the center of the frame and above the roller and having a lower horizontal biting edge adapted to engage the horizontal portion of the line and clamp the same against the upper peripheral portion of the roller, said jawalso having a nose portion facing the back wall, a platespring fixed to the back wall and having a lower free end engaging the said nose portion of the jaw, and a bail pivotally connected to the side flanges of the frame near. its back 011 .a line between the roller and jaw and inthe plane of the pull of the line, whereby the frame is held from tilting or canting under the tension of the line, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. 1
OLE H. GROSLAND.
