PAT NT OFFICE.
HARRY ALBERTO LAWLER AND JOSEPH PERRY KERR, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
ADJUSTABLE BRlDLE-ROD FOR RAILWAY-SWITCHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 730,932, dated June 16, 1903.
Application filed April 21,1903.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HARRY ALBERTO LAW- LER and JOSEPH PERRY KERR, citizens of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Bridle-Rods for Railway-Switches; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in adjustable bridle-rods for railway-switches, the object of which is to provide a cheap, simple, durable, and convenient device for quickly, easily, and permanently securing the points of the switches in the desired position or distance apart. These objects we accomplish by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which-- Figure l is a view in elevation of the entire Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the device. Fig. 3 is a view of the lever or safety-clamp detached.
Similar letters represent corresponding parts in the several figures.
A and B represent the two parts of the bridle-rod. Said parts are each provided with notches A and B any desired size, for interlocking or receiving each other. In the end of each of the said parts A and B is a slot A and B and also have a hole for receiving a bolt. Said slots permit of an adjustment in length of the rod.
O is a yoke for holding the parts more firmly together andis provided with a spring-clamp or lever D. One end of said spring-clamp D passes in under the yoke, and the lower projecting part of the clamp or lever forms a fulcrum D for giving a leverage when the bolt at the other end of the clamp in the hole D is drawn or screwed down, thus holding the parts Serial No. 153,660. (No model.)
firmly together and by the spring tension of the lever prevents the nut from working ofi the bolt E, which passes through the open ing D. By loosening the nuts on the bolts E and F the parts may be loosened and the rod adjusted in length and the same prevent ed from slipping or moving by reason of the notches A and B and the clamp tension, as above specified.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. An adjustable bridierod for railwayswitches, consisting of two parts detachably connected by means of bolts resting in slots and teeth or notches which interlock, substantially as shown and described.
2. An adjustable bridle-rod for railwayswitches, consisting of two parts detachably connected by means of bolts in slots; said parts provided with notches, and a yoke provided with a spring-clamp, for firmly securing the same together, and to prevent one of 'the nuts from unscrewing, substantially as shown and described and for the purpose specified.
3; An adjustable bridlerod, for railwayswitches consisting of two parts detachably connected, said parts having teeth or notches for engaging each other, also slots for receiving bolts to permit of lineal adjustment; and a clamp formed of a yoke and a lever to hold the said parts together at one point, while the spring end of the lever prevents the nut from unscrewing and holds them together at the opposite end, substantially as shown and described. g a
In testimony whereof We affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
