Description

i @citen Afaire 'gate-nt ffm.
RUSSEL'B; PRINDLE,` or NORWIGH, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 72,901, dated December 31. 1867.
IMPROVEMBNTIN WAGON-JACK.
A'IO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thatI, RUssEL B. PRINDLE, of Norwich, in the county of Ohenango, in the State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful ,Improvements in Wagon or Lifting-Jacks .and the following .is` a' full, clear, andexact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which-. l
Figure 1 representsA a front face vertical view of the jack. Y A Figure'2 shows a section through arside elevation of the same, the slide for lifting shown raised up in red lines.
v My invention -is an ,improvement on the wagon or liftin August-20, 1867 and it censists'in` a simple notched rack ivi/th pin-guides at the top, Working in grooves in the vertical standard,so :1s to keep the top of'the rack in position, while'it'being so connected by a. link vto thel g-jack for which, I obtained LettersIatent dated i fulcrum ofthe crooked lever, that the hookfnvotches' will readily assume the proper position to take hold of' the cross-bar under the bottom of the-slides, which with a cross-piece on the-top, form the lifting-frame,v operating v at -various heights. l
'To enableA others to make and use my improved Wagon or lifting-jack, I will describe it more fully, referring to the drawings and to the letters marked thereon. A
The' foot or base, A, the vertical standardsB B, andthe sliding frame CA C, are ,constructed very similar to the frame of my patent wagon-jack above referred to. Under the bottom of the slides C is placed a. bar of metal, a a, running thronglrthe side slits of the standards B B, .so as to forni an oblong square frame of the -portieri of the jack that slides vup for lifting. The lever D, which may be made of.cast meta-l, has trunnions dd,
on 'each side, onwhich it is hung in the top of the standards B B, it having slot, b, in the fulcrum-end, inte which the connecting-linkfis withdrawn, and passes by the centre of the pivots or truimions d d, when the handle of the lever D'is carried down to a vertical position. To the connecting-linkfis attached by a. loop or staple, e, the notched rack E; the connecting-link being.in front of the pin-guides L t, so as to always hold the rack-teeth z' von to thepbar a, when the lever D is operated for lifting, the power of the lever being the same, whether lifting by the top o'r bottom teeth, or-notches of the rack E.
The operation of the jack, as above described, is the most simple, efficient, and easily understood. When used for raising a Wagon-wheel o'' the ground, raise the handle of the lever D, place thejaclc so that the cross'- pieee c will be under and near to the'axle. 'lhe notched rack E will place `one of the teeth under the bar a,
then bring the lever-D down until the pin which connects the linkf to the fulcrum of the lever, is past'the trunnions d d, and the weight is lifted, and held firmly by its orvn gravitation.
' Having thus fully described iny improvement and invention in wagon and lifting-jacks, what I claim as neu-,
and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The notched rncklbar E, arranged and constructed in combination with the connecting-link f, fulcrum-lever D, bottom bar a, and sliding frame C G, operating substantially in the manner as herein described, for .the purposes set forth. I
In testimony whereof, I have hcrenntosubseribed my name in the presence ofn. B. rRINDLE.
Witnesses:
