The device is adapted to be saturatedV with melted vaseline or gun-grease, preferably by unscrewing the plug and pouring the lubricant into the bore of the spring, through the coi-ls of which it will pass and be absorbedby the sheath.

In practice the device is inserted into the gun-barrel and left there until the gunis to be used, the implement being ofthe proper size to i'ill the barrel closely, thus keeping the oil constantly in contact with the inner surface of the barrel, whereby all moisture is excluded and the bore of the barrel protected from rusting and pitting. Agun after it has been used for shooting may without being cleaned be put away and kept for weeks with perfect safety against rust or pits by using this instrument, while without its use-the gun may be thoroughly cleaned and put away and then gather moisture and rust and become vantages of the invention will be readily un'- derstood without requiring an extended explanation. v
