UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
CHARLES W. NEUENDORF AND ERNST H. MYERS, OF WYANDOTTE, MICHIGAN; SAID MYERS ASSIGNOR TO SAID NEUENDORF.
.OUTSIDE BURlAL-CASE FOR GASKETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,902, dated March 31, 1903.
Application filed September 25, 1902. Serial No. 124,784. (No model.)
To all whom it mayconcern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES W. NE EN- DORE and ERNST H. MYERS, citizens of the United States, residing at Wyand0tte,county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and usefullmprovementin Outside Burial-Cases for Caskets; and we declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in burial-boxes employed to inclose the cas ket when deposited in the grave, shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly set forth in the following specification and claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the case with the cover removed. Fig. 2 is across-sectional View of the case with the cover in position. Fig. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view through the cover.
The object of our invention is to provide a burial-case for caskets which shall be impervio'us to moisture and proof against decay;
and it consists in constructing the same of Portland or other cement, which may, if desired, be formed on a wire frame or stiffened by putting in longitudinal strips at suitable intervals.
Referring to the letters of reference shown on the drawings, A represents the body of the burial-case, and A suitable handles secured to the walls of the case.
Brepresents strands of wire running around the casket, forming a loop.
0 is the cover, which may be constructed in two parts in the larger sizes for conven ience of handling. The cover and side walls of the casket are provided with shoulders, as shown at c, in order form a broken joint. While the cover may be flat on its upper surface, we prefer to have it arched, as it affords and at intervals the wire loops B are embed= ded to stifien the walls of the case.
It is apparent thatin place of the wire loops B a wire-netting could be employed if it is found necessary to stiffen the walls of the case; but the same may be entirely dispensed with.
Having thus described our invention, what we claimis' p In an outside burial-case, the walls of the body of the' case A formed of-one continuous unbroken wall of cement, the inside corners on being rounded to insure greater strength, a
plurality of independent wire loops B sepa-- rated from each other encircling the body of 'the caseand embedded in its upright'walls,
a plurality of independent horizontally-disposed metallic strips separated from each other embeddedin the base of the case, a cover 0 formed of cement provided 'with broken joints 0 where it joins the upright walls of the case, and longitudinalindependent metallic strips separated'from each other embedded in said "cover, substantially as described. 1
In testimony whereoflwe sign this specifi cation in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. NEUEEDORE.
ERNST H. MYERS.
