Be it known that I, ROBERT G. LITsEY, aV citizen ofthe United States, residing at .Has-V kell, in the county of' Haskell and State of Texas, have made certain new and useful Improvements in School-Desks, of which the following is a specitication.
My invention is an improvement in schooldesks, and isin the nature of an appliance by which the school-desks may be conveniently removed whenever desired, as when it is desired to clean the room; andthe invention consists in certain niovel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a desk provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of a pair of desks, partly broken away, showing thesame mounted on the base-bar.4 Fig. Bis a face view, and Fig. et is a side view, of one of the hooked hangers for connecting such base-bar with the truck-sections. Figs. 5 and 6 are detail perspective views showing the means for connecting the sections of the basebar with each other. Fig. 7 is a plan view of the joint between the sections of the basebar. Fig. 8 is a detail side View of one of the trucks arms, showing the means for connecting the same with the foot block or treadle. Fig. 9 is a detail View of such block. Fig. 10 is a detail perspective View ot. the outer end` of one of the sections, showing the means cooperating with the hooked hanger. Fig. 11 is a detail sectional view of one of the wheels, and Fig. 12 is a crossesectional view of one of the truck-bars.
By providing means forvconveniently moving the desks `the cleaning of the room is not only facilitated, but can also be done much more electively than where the. desks are fixed, thus reducing the cost of sweeping and securing better results by such operation.
As shown, the desks -have their legs b mounted on the base-bars g, which latter may be in sections, if desired, connected by the interlockin g projections, as best shown in Figs. 5 and 6. When several desks are thus'mounted on the same pair of base-bars, the row of desks so mounted can be moved at the same time by employing the roller devices at the opposite ends of the base-bars. devices may be permanently connected with thebase-bars of each row; but it is preferred to make themdetachable, so they can be brought into use Whenever desired. To this latter being arranged in pairs and provided near their outer ends with the wheels e and at their inner ends with means whereby they may be secured when such ends are depressed to approximately horizontal position in order to elevate the base-bars g, as will be understood'from Fig. 1. `One of the truck-sections is provided in its upper end with the stem A, upon which slides the foot block or treadle h on the other truck-section, such treadle being arranged to be secured by the latch n when the opposite truck-sections are adjusted to elevate the basel-bars g. To release the block h from the latch n, I provide a leverj, connected by a rod j with the lever m, so that it may be operated to adjust the latch n out of engagementwith the block h. and permit the weight of the desks to readjust lthe parts to the position shown in full lines,

The hanger f is bifurcated to bars'g, they being-arranged to operate in the openingsV g', so they canfbe readily inserted when detached from the truck-sections, but will be held in engagement with-the basebars when the hangers are adjusted into connection with the truck-sections, as will be `nnderstoodfrom Fig. l. p
When the parts are in the 'position shown in Fig. 1,the operator by pressure of the block or treadle h Ycan adjust the parts from the full-line position, Fig. 1, to position for use by depressing the inner ends of the trucksections, thus elevating the base-bars gv and supporting the same on Vthe trucks, the parts being held in this position by engagement of the latch n with the block or treadle h, the latch n having a hook to engage said treadle h, as willbe understood from Fig. 1. The upper surface of the block or treadle h may be toothed, as shown, to prevent the foot from slipping in operating the said treadle.

By making the base g in section, as shown and before described, the device may be adapted to any number of desks in a row.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The improvement-herein described, com prising the combination with the base-bars for supporting desks, of the truck-sections provided near their outer ends with supporting-wheels, the hangers for connecting such ends with the base-bars, the block connected with the inner end of one truck-section and slidable along the inner end of the other section, a latch on the latter section for securing said block in one position of the parts, and a lever and connections for releasing said latch from engagement with such block to permit the readjustment of the parts.
2. The attachment, comprising the opposite trucksections provided near their outer ends with supporting wheels and beyond said wheels with means for supporting the devices to be elevated and connected and slidable upon each other at their inner ends, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination, of the opposite trucksections provided at their outer ends with supporting-Wheels, and beyond said Wheels with means for supporting the devices to be elevated and a block connected with the inner end of one of said sections, and slidable along the other section, substantially as set forth.

The combination with the opposite trucksections having near their outer ends supporting- Wheels, and beyond said Wheels With means for supporting the devices to be elevated, of a block on the inner end of one of said sections and slidable along the inner end of the other section, and a latch on the other section for engagement with said block for holding the parts when adjusted, substantially as set forth.
5. As a means for elevating and supporting desks, the combination of two opposite truck-sections provided near their outer ends with Wheels and beyond said Wheels with means for supporting the desk, and siidable one along the other at their inner ends in order to raise the desks by lever action, substantially as set forth.
6. The combination with the base-bars for supporting desks, of the truck-like lever-sections operating between the base-bars and provided at their outer ends with hangers for supporting the base-bars, anda movable connectiony between the inner ends of the truck-sections, substantially as set forth.
7 The combination with the base-bars, and the desks supported thereon, of the trucksections provided at their outer ends with hooked hangers for supporting the base-bars, and adjacent to said ends with the supporting-Wheels and slidable along each other at their inner ends and for adjustment to position to raise the base-bars, and means for securing the truck-sections in such adjustment, substantially as set forth.
8. The combination with the base-bars for supporting desks, of the truck-like lever-sections for raising said base-bars, connections between the inner ends of the truck-sections and the hooked hangers provided at their upper ends with studs for engagement with the truck-sections and With hooks at their lower ends forengagem ent with the base-bars, and a movable connection between the inner ends of the truck-like lever-sections, substantially as set forth.
