HENRY SAUM, OF BROOKLYN, NE\V YORK.
ATTACHMENT FOR MENS OR BOYS WAISTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,049, dated March 3, 1903.
Application filed June 14;, 1902. $erial No. 111,701. (No model.)
.."0 a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,HENRY SAUM,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn,in the county of Kings and State of New York, haveinvented a new and Improved Attachment for Mens or Boys Vaists, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
The invention relates to garments, and more particularly to mens and boys waists; and its object is to provide a new and improved Waist attachment for conveniently and quickly connecting the waist with the trousers, the attachment being simple and durable in construction and readily detached from the waist to permit convenient washing of the same without hindrance by the attachment and without danger of injuring the latter.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement as applied to the front of awaist. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of the improvement, showing the rear connection. Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section of the waist and trousers on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, showing the improvement; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged face view of one of the hooks.
The waist A, on which the improvement is applied, is provided at the waist portion with a reinforce-band B, preferably secured to the inside of the waist material by sewing orotherwise, as indicated in the drawings. In the garment material and the said reinforce-band B are secured front pairs of eyelets O and rear pairs of eyelets 0', preferably made of metal, of which the eyelets of afront pair of eyelets O are adapted to be engaged by the ends D of a hook D, adapted to hook onto a button E, secured to the inside of the trousers F, as illustrated in Fig. 3. Each of the hooks D is made of a single piece of wire or like material, having its ends D bent toward each other to engage the eyelets O of a pair from the front by pressing the material between the said eyelets toward each other and slipping the ends D into the eyelets.
The middle portion of the hook D is bent into a loop for conveniently hooking onto the button E, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 3 and 4:.
Each of the two rear pairs of eyelets O is adapted to be engaged by a tape-hook G, hav
ing ends G bent toward each other, the same as the ends D of the hooks D, so as to engage the eyelets of a pair of eyelets O in the same manner as the hook D engages a pair of front eyelets C. The body portion of each tapehook G is made V shape, as plainly shown in Fig. 2, one of the members of each hook being engaged by a loop at the end of a tape H, extending at its middle through a link I, ongaged by a second tape I-I, formed at its ends into loops engaged by the ends D of the hooks D similar in construction to the hooks D and likewise adapted to engage the buttons E on the trousers F. The tapes H and H are preferably made of elastic material, and as they are slidably connected with the link I it is evident that they readily give to any bending or other motion of the body, so as to relieve the buttons and pairs of eyelets O of undue strain, to prevent tearing of the trousers F or the garment A.
Now by the arrangement described the hooks D and G can be readily disconnected from their pairs of eyelets O C to allow of conveniently washing the garment A whenever desired without the slightest hindrance by the attachment, and after the garment is washed the hooks can be readily reengaged with the said pairs of eyelets for connecting the waistends extending toward each other and engaging the eyelets of a pair of eyelets, as set forth.
2. Means for attaching trousers to garments, comprising pairs of eyelets adapted for application to the front and rear of a garment, removable front hooks having loops for engagement with buttons on trousers, and each front hook having removable connection with a pair of front eyelets, rear tape-hooks each having detachable engagement with a pair of rear eyelets, a tape having its ends attached to a pair of rear tape-hooks, and another tape connected with the first-named tape and provided with hooks for engagement with buttons on trousers.
3. Means for attaching garments to trousers, comprising pairs of eyelets, triangular hooks each having inwardly-extending ends adapted to be inserted removably in the eye- HENRY SAUM.
