DISPLAY CABINET AND ADJUSTABLE SHELF;
WITNESS UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
SILAS E. BRIGGS, OF OHURUBUSOO, INDIANA.
DISPLAY-CABINET AND ADJUSTABLE SHELF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 715,967, dated December 16, 1902. Application filed June 20,1902. Serial ia.112,515. (N0 model.)
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SILAs E. BRIGGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ghurubusco, in the county of Whitley and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets and Adjustable Shelves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in folding frames and adjustable shelving for display-racks for undertakers uses; and it consists in the provision, in connection with the hinged sections of the rack, of folding shelves which are adapted to be held at different locations in the panels of the frame, and thereby making it convenient and easy to adjust shelves at different locations to accommodate articles of different sizes which it may be desired to be held upon said shelves.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding display-rack for holding burial-robes. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the panels, showing the adjustable shelf mounted thereon. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view longitudinally and centrally through the hinged shelf-sections; and Fig. 4 is a detail View of the shelf, showing the retaining-rope held in the end thereof.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate a series of panels, which are adapted to be hinged together and allowed to fold in a compact form and, if desired, may be provided with caster-wheels, whereby the series of sections hinged together, forming a cabinet or displayrack, may be easily conveyed from place to place.
Each panel has on its inner longitudinal strips a beading B, which is notched at different locations along its length, as at 0. Each shelf is made up of two sections E E, hinged together at E, and the outer end of each shelf-section is recessed, as at D, which recess is of sufiicient size to receive the beading B along the inner marginal face of the panel. Seated in a transverse recess in each end of the shelf-section is a wire F, the outer portion of which is preferably flush with the end of the shelf-section, said wire being countersunken in the recess, as shown. Each of said wires F is adapted to enter a transverse slot 0, formed in said beading B, whereby the shelf is supported and held in place. On the opposite edges of the shelf-sections are pivoted the strips H, which may be held when not in use in alinement with the shelf-sections, but which may be turned at right angles to said shelf-sections for the purpose of holding the garments to be displayed upon the shelf, as will be readily understood.
On the inner surfaces of the top and bottom strips of each panel are bracket-shaped members K, the angled ends of which are downwardly-disposed and which are provided for the purpose of guides to hold the garment in place within the panel.
In adjusting the shelves in place it will be observed that the shelf-sections are placed between the two strips when in partial folded relation, and after the strips are passed into the recesses in the ends the shelves are pushed down, so that the opposite faces of the shelves will be parallel with each other and the wires carried at the ends of the shelf-sections will rest in the slots in the beading B and the shelf may be securely held in its adjusted position.
, Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A display-rack for burial-robes, &c.,comprising a series of panels hinged together, slotted beads on the inner faces of the longitudinal portions of each panel, shelf-sections hinged together, the outer end of each section being recessed and adapted to be adjustably held in one of said slots, as set forth.
2. In combination with a panel, of a display-cabinet, beads passing to the inner longitudinal portions thereof and having slots at intervals opposite to each other, shelves, each made up of two sections hinged together, the outer end of each section having a central recess to receive said bead, and a wire seated in a transverse recess in the end of the section and adapted to enter one of said slots in said bead, as set forth.
3. In combination with the panel, of a display-cabinet, beads on the innerlongitudinal In testimony whereof I hereunto atfix my 25 signature in presence of two witnesses.
