Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL B. CHRONIGER, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLASTIC COM POUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 715,022, dated December 2, 1902. Application filed April 28, 1902. Serial No. 10 L990. (N0 specimens.)
To rtZZ whont it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SA UEL B. OHRONIGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastic Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in plastic compounds, relating particularly to such compounds as are employed for Wall-plastering and the like; and the object of the invention is to provide a compound extremely cheap to manufacture as well as one embodying advantages over the plaster ordinarily used.
My compound consists of finely -ground natural fire-clay, slaked lime, ground, stucco comprising calcined gypsum rock, ground, dry sand, and goats hair, which I generally use in about the proportions as follows: finelyground natural fire-clay, (about) one hundred pounds; stucco, ground, two hundred pounds; slaked lime, ground, twenty-six pounds; dry sand, six hundred pounds; goats hair, onehalf pound.
In the manufacture of wall-plaster as heretofore used it has generally been the practice to employ quantities of whitening and chalk, which greatly increase the cost of the plaster. By the use of fire-clay in my formula as above given I dispense entirely with whitening and chalk or talc and also lessen the proportion of stucco. In practice I preferably first mix the fire-clay thoroughly with the slaked lime and then add the other ingredients thereto.
It will of course he understood thatI do not limit myself to the exact proportions as herein given for the different ingredients, as conditions may require certain alterations in the proportions.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described compound consisting of finely-ground fire-clay, ground calcined gypsum rock, slaked lime, sand, and goats hair.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL B. CHRONIGER.
