UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
MARSHALL A. WILLER, OF BURROAK, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HINCHER MFG. CO., OF BURROAK, MICHIGAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 713,188, dated November 11, 1902.
Application filed May 31,1901. Serial No. 62,557. (No model.)
To all whom it maycoucern:
Be it known that I, MARSHALL A. WILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the village of Burroak, in the county of St. Jo-
seph and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in io garment-hangers. Y
The objects of the invention are to provide a garment-hanger of simple and efficient construction which shall serve both as a clamping-hanger for the trousersrand as a suitable i 5 hanger for the coat; second, to provide an improved construction of such combined coatand-trousers hanger which shall be simple and easy to manufacture. Further objects will definitely appear from the detailed dezo scription to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in this specification.
The invention is clearly dened and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- 3o Figure l is a front elevation view of my improved hanger, the operation of the same being indicated by dotted lines. rear View of the structure appearing in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View on a line corresponding to lines 3 3 of Figs. l and 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail view of one end of the said garment-hanger.
In the drawings similar letters of reference 4o refer to similar part-s throughout the several views, and all the sectional views are taken looking inthe direction ofthe little arrows at the ends of the section-lines.
Referring to the lettered parts of the drawings, A is the curved portion of the hanger, which is of the usual form, being provided with the usual suspension-hook A at the eenter. Within this curved part A is a portion made up of side pieces B B, which are pref- 5o erably formed from the part cut from the inner curved portion of the bar A. The side Eig. 21s a- B is secured rigidly to the bar A by means of little strips of metal D D. The opposite side B is hinged-by a wire loop C to the central part of the curved bar A. Toward each end of the bar A are pivoted looped links E. The ends of the side pieces B B are slightly beveled on the outside at e, so that the links E may be readily crowded over the tapering sides of the same. Between the sides B B 6o and along the lower inner edges of the same are strips F, of felt or other fabric, forming facings for the edges.
I have thus described my improved device fully.
In operation the hinged edge B is opened upwardly to the position indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. l. The bottom ends of a pair of trousers properly folded are placed Ain the position indicated by the dotted lines 7o below and the hinged piece B folded down against them, and the links E E are crowded over onto the tapered portion of the side piece, and the trousers are thus securely clamped and held in position. The coat and vest are then placed over the bar A and a complete suit-hanger is thus provided which is easily and readily adapted to the purpose. By the special arrangement of the parts, it will be observed, there is great economy in 8o the material used in the manufacture of my improved garment-hanger,thus greatly cheapening its production, while at the same time a very superior result is secured. I have shown special parts for retaining the parts together, but desire to remark that other means might be employed, although those I have shown, I believe, are superior on account of the manufacture and the efficiency of their operation. 9o Having th us described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of the curved bar A; side pieces B, B formed to t within the under side of the same; strips D, D, for securing the side piece B rigidly in position; the hinged piece C centrally located on the side piece B for hinging the same `to the curved upper bar A; loops E pivoted toward the ends 10u of the curved barA for crowdingfover the ends of the side pieces B, B and cushion-strips F between the inner edges of the side pieces B, B', all coacting substantially as described for the purpose specified.
2. In a garment-hanger, the combination of the curved top barA; side pieces B,B conformed to the inner side thereof, one of which is rigidly secured to said top bar, and the other of which is hinged thereto; clampingloops pivoted to the said top bar and positioned for engaging the ends of said side pieces for crowding the same together, for the purpose specified.
3. The combination of the curved bar A; side pieces B, B formed to fit within the under side of the same; strips D, D, for securing the side piece B rigidly in position; the hinged piece C centrally located on the side piece B for hinging the same to the curved upper bar A; clamping means for the said side pieces B, B; and cushion-strips F between the inner edges of the side pieces B,B, all coacting substantially as described for the purpose specified.
4. In a garmenthanger, the combination of the curved top bar A; side pieces B, B conformed to the inner side thereof, one of which is rigidly secured to said top bar, and the other of which is hinged thereto; clamping means for the said side pieces, for crowding the same together, for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
MARSHALL A. WILLER.
