UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR SOHAEFFER, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
FASTENING DEVICE FOR-BROQCHE S, SAFETY-PINS, OR THE LIKE.
SPEGIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,727, dated November 4, 1902.
Application filed May 17, 1901. Serial No. 60,708. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR SCHAEFFER, a citizen of the Kingdom of Prussia, and a resident of Prinzessinnenstrasse 10, Berlin, in theKingdom ofPrussia,GermanEmpire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Brooches, Safety-Pins, or the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The features of the invention will be described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the parts of the device in a different relative position from that shown in Fig. 1.
In the drawings, a indicates a brooch of ornamental form having on its under side a hook at and also having a projection c, to which a safety-pin ofs'traight form is pivot ed. Near the pivot of the straight pin 1) and surrounding the same a spiral pin 6 is located, this being fixed to the said straight pin.
In fastening theiorooch to the garment the front part a of the brooch is swung back, so that it will serve as a handle extending substantially rearward from the pin. This pin is thrust into the garment until the point of the spiral pin touches the garment.
Then
the pin 1) is rotated" by using the part a as a handle, and this causes the windings of the spiral to enter the goods, after which the front part a of the brooch isswung over the pin b and the said pin is fastened to the hook. This completes the fastening, and to undo the brooch a reverse action is required.
It will be understood that while I have shown and described the invention as embodied in a brooch this is merely representative of any form of ornamental or safety pin comprising a main front part and a pivoted pin adapted to penetrate the garment and have its point held by a hook or catch on the front part.
What I claim is- A brooch or the like comprising a front part, a straight pin pivoted thereto at or near one end, a hook for holding the free end of the pin and a spiral pin arranged about the straight pin and located adjacent to the pivot thereof, substantially as described.
7 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR SOHAEFFER.
