To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JESSE FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wardner, in the county of Shoshone and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Armored and Burglar-Proof Cars; and Ido declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v.

The invention relates to tl'lllOl'Gdfid'ld burglar-proof vaults which may be built or placed in mail-cars, express cars, paycars, and

freight-cars, or in banks, stores, factories,

hotels, oflices, and other places where it is desired to set up a defense against robbers.

The objectof the invention is to provide a simple, durable, burglar and bullet proof defense of this character by means of which property may beefiectually guarded without danger of the guards being shot by the bur With this and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of constructionfcombination, and arrangement of parts,-which will behereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, in which I have illustrated the invention as being applied to a car, Figure 1 is a side view of one end of a car. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is. a vertical cross-sectional view at right angles to Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes a car, 2 the usual doors, and 3 the windows at the ends of the car.

4 denotes a bullet-proof vault made of bullet-proof metal and of any suitable size. This vault may be secured or located at any desired point in the car and, as shown in the,

accompanying drawings, is secured to the car near one end thereof and is provided with openings 5 in its sides to correspond with the windows of the car, said openings having arranged along the sides thereof guides 6 to receiye the bullet-proof shutter or blind 7. It will thus be seen that when the car, building, or room within'which the vault is located is about to be attacked by burglars a person may enter the vault, lock himself within the same, and completely defend the property.

If the vault be placed in a car, I provide means whereby should the burglar enter the car, by the door this door may belockod and held-in that position by the guard within the vault, so that the burglar cannot escape, and whereby when the car reaches a town or city the officersthereof maybe summoned and arrest the burglar. This means consists,preferably, of a steel bar 17, secured by a padlock to each of the doors and extending through thefront wall of the vault and having a notch 18, adapted to engage a stud 19, whereby when said door is closed and the notch of the bar is engaged with the stud it will be locked and the robber thus entrapped.
