In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 1 1 of Fig. 2, illustrating my said improved receptacle with the preferred form of cover. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.

My present application covers a variation of the device shown in my prior application,

1900, the receptacle proper being the same as that shown in said application, and in its preferred form herein illustrated being the paste-jar already patented to me in design Patent No. 31,181, dated July 11, 1899, which receptacle (herein marked A) is divided by an interior partition 0 at one side'of the center thereof to form two compartments of unequal size, the larger one, B, being to contain the paste or other adhesive substance, as shown at E, and the smaller compartment, D, forming a well for the reception of the brush F, whose bristles c are kept moist by water'in' said well, and which'brush is suspended in said well by means of a transverse disk d, secured to the handle of said brush, substantially as in my said prior application herein referred to, which disk rests upon the top of the described partition 0 and nearly, but not quite, closes the well D, there being enough of the said well uncovered, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, to permit the escape of the water of evaporation from the said Well or compartment D over into the adjacent compartment B, and thereby keep the paste in the latter in a softened condition, always ready for use. The upper portion 6 of the brush-handle projects above the plane of the top of the receptacle A.

G represents the dome-top or cover of my device, said top being preferably formed-with a central downward circular depression g,which leaves an annular chamber fsurrounding the same between the annular vertical wallof said depression 9 and the outer annular vertical wall of said top or cover G for the reception of the upper projecting portion of the brush- -handle, so that there is no contact or interference with said handle when the brush is supported as described when the cover is being screwed to place on the receptacle A or unscrewed therefrom in the preferred form of my receptacle, which has screwthreads or locking-lugs a a on the outer surface of its upper end and the said cover G being provided with corresponding threads or formations I) b for engagement therewith. Further, whether the top or cover G is revoluble or a simple slip-cover it may be placed upon the receptacle at any point without especial care in closing the device, as the projecting handle would always be received within some part of the said annular chamber free from obstruction or interference.

By reason of constructing the dome-cover with the described central depression 9 I further overcome a very serious objection heretofore existing with respect to the ordinary all-open dome-covers in common use with paste-jars for many years, these domes having been found unsatisfactory by reason of the large body of air that they held directly over the paste, which robbed the paste of its moisture, rendering the said paste dry, brittle, and unfit for use; but this central depression obviates this and leaves only the described narrow annular channel j", which is only a trifle wider transversely than the diameter of the brush-handle, the diameter of the dome being preferably made very materially less than the diameter of the receptacle A, which appreciably lessens the volume of the body of air heldover said receptacle. To aid in keeping the package air-tight, I preferably employ a packing-gasket h of any suitable material or in place thereof a packing-disk having an opening therein for the passage of the brush-handle therethrough.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A receptacle for paste or analogous adhesive material provided with a brush-holding and water-evaporating compartment composed of a portion of the wall of the said receptacle and an interior partition integral with and meeting such Wall at its ends, in combination with a centrally-depressed dome top or cover formed With a chamber beyond said central depression extending above the receptacle a sufficient distance to inclose the handle of the brush which projects above the cup, and being of a diameter materially less than the diameter of the said receptacle.

2. A receptacle for paste or analogous adhesive material formed with an inner partition-wall at one side of the center thereof, dividing the interior of the receptacle into two compartments of unequal size, in combination with a brush located in the smaller compartment, and having a handle projecting above the upper end of said receptacle, and a dome top or cover formed with a central depression, thereby providing an annular chamber for the reception of said upward-projecting brush-handle, when the said top or cover is secured to the said receptacle, and lessening the air-holding space of the said dome.

3. A receptacle for paste or analogous adhesive material formed with an inner partition-wall dividing the said receptacle into two compartments of unequal size, in combination with a brush supported from said partitionwall within the smaller compartment free from contact with either wall thereof and having a handle projecting above the upper end of said receptacle, and a dome top or cover revolubly secured to said receptacle and formed with a central depression, thereby providing an annular chamber in said dome for the reception of said upward-projecting brush-handle, whereby the said cover maybe revolubly secured to or removed from the said receptacle Without contact or interference with said brush-handle.
