To all whom it 7am/y concern.:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHSHAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improveniente in Sand-Blast-Controlling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
Myinveution relates to improvements in that class of sand-blast-controllin g apparatus in which air under pressure is conducted to the sand-reservoir above the sand therein before passing to the discharge-duct, and pertains more especially to the means employed for controlling the escape of sand from a reservoir under air-pressurethrough one or more apertures or series of apertures into a sand-blast duct communicatingbetween said reservoir and the exterior through a hose and discharge-nozzle, whereby the escape of sand and air, which together form the sandblast, is controlled and a greater or less quantity of sand is mingled with a given Vvolume of com-` pressed air, as circumstances may require, and also to the means employed for conduct-y ing the compressed air from the supply to said sand-reservoir and air-controlling valve.

D is an air-controlling valve of ordinary construction. The pipe C, leading to the reservoir, is preferably run downwardly and upwardly, forming a U-shaped bend- E, which serves as a trap forsuch moisture as may have accumulated from the compressed air before it enters the sand-reservoir. p
F is an ordinary petcock through which the moisture may be drawn oit from the duct.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a sand-blast-controlling device, the combination of an air-tight sand-receiving reservoir; a cylinder, provided at its lower end with a plurality of apertures through its vertical walls, extending longitudinally through said reservoir; an air-duct communieating from the source of pressure through the upper end of said cylinder with said sandreservoirabove the sand therein; a hose connected with the lower end of said cylinder; a vertically-moving hollow plunger, provided with apertures at its upper end, located within said cylinder, and adapted to control the passageof sand through said apertures; a rod communicating from said plunger with the exterior of said reservoir; and means for raising and lowering said plunger, and opening and closing said apertures, as s et forth.
2. In a sand-blast-controlling device, the combination of an air-tight sand-receiving reservoir, a cylinder, provided at its upper and lower ends with a plurality of apertures formed through its vertical walls; extending longitudinally through said reservoir and protruding, at its respective ends, through the ends of said reservoir; an air-duct communieating from a source of pressure with the upwardly-protruding end of said cylinder, a hose connected with the lower protruding end of said cylinder; a vertically-adjustable,
hollow plunger, provided with apertures at its upper end, located in said cylinder and adapted to control the passage of sand through said apertures; a rod communicating from said plunger through a stufng-box with the exterior of said reservoir; and a lever pivotally connected with the protruding end of said rod, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a sand-blast-controlling device, the combination of an air-tight sand-receiving reservoir; a cylinder, provided at its upper and lower ends with a plurality of apertures through its vertical walls, extending longitudinally through said reservoir; an airduct, provided with U-shaped bends (in the lower end of which is a petcock) connected with the upper end of said cylinder; a hose connected with the lower end of said cylinder; a vertically-moving, hollow plunger, provided with apertures at its upper end,`
located within said cylinder, and adapted to control the passage of sand through said apertures; a rod communicating from said plunger with the exterior of said reservoir; and means for raising and lowering said plunger, and opening and closing said apertures, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
