BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
$PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 709,292, dated September lG, 1902.
Application filed February 27, 1902. $eria1No. 95,854. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern: Beitknown thatI, GEORGE J. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the 5 county of Kings and State of New York, have inventedanew and Improved Bottle-Closure, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in closures or stoppers for packages containing toilet powderor the like and of that class having two parts provided with outlet-openings and arranged to rotate one part relatively to the other, so as to cause a register of the openings or to close the same; and the object is to provide a closure of this type in which the two perforated parts will be automatically held close together at all times, thus preventing an accumulation of powder between the parts.
I will describe a bottle-closure embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accom panying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a section on the line 1 1 of Fig.
3 of a bottle-closure embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a plan View.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates the metal cap, and 6 the cap mounted to rotate thereon. The cap 5 may be conveniently secured to the bottle by means of a flange at its lower portion engaging, as indicated at 7, around the head 8 at the upper end of the bottle-neck. The cap 5 has a perforated top 9, and the cap 6 has a perforated ,top 10.
When the cap 6 is turned to one position, the perforations are made to register, so that powder may be distributed through the same. When turned to another position, however, the perforations of both tops are closed. The
cap 6 has a. screw-threaded engagement 11 with the cap 5, and as there is to be but a slight movement of the cap 6 relatively to the cap 5 I provide a stop device for the rotary movement of said cap 6, which, as here shown, consists of a pin 12, adapted to en- :0 gage with the end walls of anotch 13, formed in the lower edge of the cap 6. The two tops 9 and 10 are convexed and engage closely together, and these tops have spring yielding connectionthat is, the top 9 is sufficiently resilient to follow upward with the upward movement of the top 10 and engage closely thereon at all times, thus preventing the accumulation of powder between the two members.
While I have shown the two tops as each provided with a series of perforations, it is to be understood that in some instances a single perforation will be provided in each top.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bottle-closure comprising a fixed cap having a perforated top, a cap having screwthreaded engagement with the first-named 7o cap and also having a perforated top, and means for limiting the rotary movement of the last-named cap relatively to the firstnamed cap, the top portions of said capsbeing of spring yielding material, so as to maintain close engagement one with the other when the rotary cap is rotated, substantially as specified.
2. A b0ttle-c1osure comprising a cap having a flange engaging around a head on the neck portion of the bottle, the said cap having a perforated top, acap mounted to rotate on the first-named cap and having a perforated top, the said tops being of spring yielding material, so as to maintain close engagement one with the other when the rotary cap is rotated, and means for limiting the rotary movement of the 1ast-named cap, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEO. J. ADAMS.
