IMPROVEMENT IN TRAVBLLING-BAGS AND VALISES.

TO ALL WI-IOM IT MAY CONCERN:

VBe it known that I, N. GROEL, of Newark, Essex county, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Travelling-Bagsand Valises; and I do hereby declare that thc following is a full,l clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use ,the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of. this specification. v

In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in travelling-bags or valises is illustraterl- Figure 1 being an exterior view of one corner of a bag or valise protected according to the present invention, and i Figure 2 a section throughthe said corner.

Similar letters of reference' indicate corresponding parts.

A, in the drawings, represents a portion or one corner of one of the frames, upon which a leather vbag or valise is ordinarily made. This frame, in the present instance, is shown as made of wood, but may be of iron or other suitable metal or material. B, a portion of the exterior or outside covering of leather attached to the bag-frame A, in the usual manner; and C one of the corners to such exterior leather covering B. This corner,

as well as all the corners to the bag, is strengthened and stiiened by a metallic corner-piece, D.' These pieces are made of sheet metal struck up of suitable shape to embrace the leather corner shown, to which they are riveted, and to extend around to the wooden frame A, where it is also secured by riveting, or in any other proper rnau'ner. v l

By the above attachment of corner pieces, not only are the leather corners to the bag or valise preserved from wear, and thus rendered more durable, but at the same time are strengthened and stiifened by the attachment of the said corner-pieces to the frame on which the bag or valise is built. In lieu of forming the corner# pieces independent of .and separate from the frames on which the bag or valise is made, they may be made as a part of the frames, if they are metal.

' I claim as new, and desire toisecure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, the struck-up metallic corner-pieces D, when constructed and applied in the manner described. to valises and travelling-bags, for the purpose specified.
