JOHN T. THOMPSON, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
SHOESTRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,980, dated July 15, 1902. Application filed June 4, 1901. Serial No. 63,119. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN T. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoestrings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shoe-1acings,its object being to provide means for reinforcing the same to prevent their wearing through and becoming separated.
To this end myinvention consists of the features of construction and combination hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a front elevation of a shoe-top shown supplied with my improved lacing. Fig. 2 is a View of one end of my improved lacing, and Fig. 3 is a 20 cross-section of the same.
minate some distance short of the ends of the lacing and are gradually tapered, as shown. By having the strip B terminate slightly above the upper hooks 4. of the shoe the bow is form cd of the unfilled ends of the lacing, making a tighter and neater knot than if the strip ran to the ends of the lacing, and by having the ends of the strip tapered the ending of the strip is not made noticeable.
As shown in Fig. 3, the strip B is fiat and fills the lacing. The filling thus holds the lacing in shape and by being flat will not be pressed into the foot by the shoe.
I claim- 1. Ashoe-lacing consistingofahollow body, and a fiat strip closely fitted within, and fill ing, said body.
2. Ashoe-lacing oonsistingofahollowbody, and a strip fitting therein, said strip terminating short of those portions of the ends of the lacings which are ordinarily tied into a bow.
3. Ashoe-lacing consisting of ahollowbody, a strip fitted therein, said strip terminating short of those portions of the ends which are ordinarily tied into a bow, said strip having its ends gradually tapered.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. Y
JOHN T. THOMPSON.
