FELIX J. ROBERTS, OF TESLA, VIIST VIRGINIA.
@UFF-HOLDER.
.SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 704,1 1l, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed February 14,1901. Serial No. 47,263. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may con/cern:
Be it known that IFELIX J. ROBERTS, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Tesla, in the county ofBraXton, State of W est Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cuff-holders; and it has for its object to provide an article of manufacture which will have such construction that While being eicient in its operation and easily attached and detached will be simple and cheap of manufacture and will have great durability. Y
Further objects and advantages of the in- `vention will be apparent from the following description.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a plan view showing one of the blanks of which the holder is made. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the member having the hooked end. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through both members of the holder and showing the hinge connection therebetween. Fig. et is an end view of one of the members and showing the upwardlyturned toothed portion thereof.
Referring now to the drawings, the body of the holder is formed of a member 5, of sheet metal, including a broadened base portion 6, adjacent to which is the slightly-narrowed portion 7 and a further narrowed or neck portion 8, at the end of which is formed the transverse head D, having an upwardlyturned toothed portion 30 at one end forming one jaw of the clip for engagement with the shirt-sleeve. The head 9 has ears 10 formed thereon and having perforations therein, and against these ears lie the ears 12 of the second jaw 13 of the clip, the ears l2 having alsoA web 1S, forming the pintle of a hinge connection between this member 5 and a second member 19. The member 19 conforms generally to the shape of the lower portion of the member 5, and at its narrowed end is a tongue 20, which is bent into the form of a hook and is engaged with the web 18 in such manner as to permit of pivotal movement of one member with respect to the other. The member 5 is provided with a headed stud 2l, while the member 19 has an opening or spring-socket 22 to receive the headed stud, the metal at the edge of the opening being bulged, as shown, in order that the head of the stud may be passed through the opening 22 and will be held yieldably the'rebeyond, the bulged metal being slit to give it a spring action, so that a springsocket of well-known construction is formed.
The use of this holder will be apparent to those skilled in the art and the ease of manufacture will be evident, it being understood that modifications of the specific construction shown and described may be made and that any suitable materials and proportions may be used for the various parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
.Vhat is claimed is- As an article of manufacture, a cuff-holder consisting of an integral member including a body portion having a narrowed neck at one end and a transverse head therebeyond and provided with teeth at one end and upwardlydirected and perforated ears at the sides of the head, a stud fixed upon the body of the member, the neck of the member having spaced openings and an intervening web, a second integral member having a terminal hook engaged through the opening of the first member and around the web thereof, the second member having a spring-socket to receive the stud, a jaw pivotally connected with the ears of the first member, and a spring disposed and constructed to hold the jaw yieldably against the teeth of. the first member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto sign my name, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on the 5th day of January, 1901.
FELIX J. ROBERTS.
