Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE S. E. JEWETT, OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN JOINT-BOLT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,223, dated` October 29, 1867.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S. E. J EWETT, of Haverhill, county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Joint-Bolts, whereby the same are more eiectually secured than by any other device hitherto used for that purpose, obviatin g the necessity of letting a nut into the Wood, as is generally done; and I do declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to theV annexed drawings, forming a part of this specilication- Figure l being a sectional representation of my bolt, wherein A is the head, and B the body, of the bolt, with a portion of the metal cut away at C, and its place supplied bya seg ment of wood, said segment being dovetailed into the metal, as shown. By the application of glue to the wood segment, as the bolt is forced home, the same is thereby firmly and securely retained in its place, no ordinary amount of force` being sufficient to Withdraw it, ifproperly done.
Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of a common window-blind, or rather a portion of the frame of a blind, with the joint J secured with my bolt, also the joint O secured with the hinge-headed bolt H.
Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section of the same portion of the blind as shown in vertical section in Fig. 2.
Claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A joint-bolt furnished with a dovetailed slot, and a dovetailed segment of wood to t the same.
' 2. I claim the application of a segment of Wood and glue, in combination with the ordinary bolt-head, or its equivalent, or with a hinge-head, as specified and described.
S. E. JEWETT.
