CHUTE-WAGON.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,894, dated June 10, 1902.

Be it known that I, ERASMUS L. KEYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hopedale, in the county of Tazewell and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chute-Wagons; and I do declare the following to be 'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as' will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom panyingdrawings., and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

`In the drawings, A represents my wagon, and B the elevator, the former having an ordinary box-bodyand the latter being of the usual construction. I pivot the bottom of ele- Vator to a frame C, attached to a platform D, and provide it.with'a sliding hopper E. .The latter may thus be kept out of theway until the wagon has got into position and then slid down, so as to underlapthebot'tom 'of the wagon, directly .under the outlet gate F.

This gate is made of two boards f f, connected by a hinge f', and a cross-piece f2, which is fast to one piece f, projects over the other and has at the end an open slot f3.

Gr is an elbow-latch which is swiveled to a piece f, so that alined with the gate it extends up through the slot and being turned at a right angle makes it rigid. The gate is then held tightly in Side grooves of thewagonbody. When it is wanted-to'jtake out the ,gate, the latchis simply alined with the, slot and the piece f2 pulled outwardly, when it will come out easily., K v

'The elevator and its appurtenances have been described, and shownin the drawings for the'purpose of illustrating clearly the use of my wagon in connection therewith.

By my invention it is unnecessary for the lfarmer to use bags, baskets, or any otherreceptaclefor his wheat in the course of transportation, as it is simply` pouredl into the wagon body or box, asi'itis donefrom an elevator int'o4 the .hold offa vessel, thnssaving much' valuabletiine and'greatly reducing the expense of handling grain. t
