BELT-CLAMP FOR BUCKLES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,091, dated May 27, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the' city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Belt- Clamp for Buckles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a simple and economic clamp for a belt adapted to be used in connection with a buckle and to so construct the device that the ends of a belt may be readily and conveniently connected and the belt rendered larger or smaller to any extent within the limit of its adjustment and securely held in its adjusted position.

A further purpose of the invention is to so construct the device that the belt to which it is applied may be quickly and accurately adjusted while on the person.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end portions of a belt and a perspective View of the improved device applied, the ends of the belt being shown as disconnected. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the parts shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the belt being shown connected through the medium of the improved device and the accompanying buckle; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device drawn upon an enlarged scale.

represents a buckle, which is removably and adj ustably connected with one end of the belt by passing the tongue of the buckle through one of a series of eyelets and passing the belt through the body and eye of the buckle.

The improved clamp 'D consists of a plate of metal or other desired material provided Serial No. 55,865. (No model.)

with a cross-bar 11 between its ends and parallel openings 12 and 13, one at each side of the cross-bar, as is particularly shown in Fig. 3. A series of sharp studs or spurs 14- is formed or produced upon the outer face of the cross-bar 11, and twin hooks 15 are located at one end of the plate, the hooks being separated by a recess 16. At the opposite end of the plate a loop 17 is formed; but this loop may be independent of the plate, if desired.

The belt is passed from the back of the plate or body of the clamp D, out through the openings 12, over the projections of the crossbar 11, and then down through the opening 13 to the back of the plate. By loosening that portion of the belt which passes over the crossbar 11 the clamp may be adjusted as desired upon the belt to make the belt larger or smaller when its ends are connected. The buckle and clampbeing in position on the belt, when the belt is to be fastened upon the person the twin hooks 15 and the clamp are made to envgage'with the cross-bar of the buckle with which the tongue is connected, the base of the tongue of the buckle being received in the recess 16 separating the hooks.

It will be observed that the belt may not only be quickly adjusted even while on the person, but its ends may be expeditiously and conveniently connected. When the ends of the belt are connected, the end of the belt to which the buckle is applied will lie over the clamp D, concealing it with the exception of the loop of the clamp when the buckle end of the belt is passed through the loop.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, a be1tclamp for buckles, consisting of an approximately'rectangular plate provided at one end with forwardly-projecting spaced hooks for engaging the tongue-bar of the belt-buckle,

at the other end with a loop projecting from its front face, through which loop the free end of the belt which is engaged by the buckle is adapted to be passed so as to overlie the clamp, and intermediate of its ends with two spaced slots forming a cross-bar having spurs struck up therefrom and projecting name to this specification in the presence of from its front face, the said slots and crosst'wo subscribing witnesses.
