INKING-fROLL FOR PRINTING-PRESSES.
SPECIFICATION k'Orrllrlg part of Letters Patent N9. 699,110, dated April 29, 190g.
Application filed August 3, 1901. Serial No. 701744. (No model.) l
To all whom it con/eerie.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH P. MARKS, a citi- -zen ofthe United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew anduseful Imrovement in Inking-Rolls vfor Printingresses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an improved inkingroll for printingLpresses, as will be here-v inafter fully described and. claimed.
. Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a portion of a frame of a printing-press provided with a truek'embodying my invention. 2 represents a section thereof, takenonline x or, Fig. 3, with certain parts shown in dot-` ted lines for convenience of illustration. Fig.
3 represents a section taken on line y' y, Fig. l;
Fig. 4t represents aside elevation of a portion of the frame and an inking-roll, showing theA parts in another position. Fig. v5 represents a section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a portion of the frame of the printing-press, and B the 'inking-roll. Said inking-roll is -mounted upon a tube'C, that is free to rotate upon a shaft D, the ends of which are held by the yoke ends ofthe carriage E. Rigidly secured to the shaft D-at the ends of the tube C are eccentrics F,and mounted to rotate freely upon these eiccentrics are the trucks G. Said trucks G are .held-in place by means of a flangeH at theinner end `ofthe eccentric, that fits within thejannular groove in the ad-.v jacentpart of thetruck, while the other end Fig.
lthe type as the roller descends and to move it into contact with the type as the roll ascends, and upon reference to Figs. l and 2 it will' be noticed that a truck G is in contact with-the frame, while the ink-roll B is raised. lThe parts are brought to this position owing to the fact that when the truck rolls upon the upper end of the frame there is sufficient friction between it and the eccentric carried by the shaft to turn said parts in the same di reotion as that inrwhich the truck is rolling until the stop or shoulder L strikes the said yoke, as shown .in Fig. 1. This throws the lrotating freely upon the-eccentric F. When the roller reaches its lower limit and then be'- gins to ascend, the trucks rotate in the opposite direction and turn the eccentric G and shaft D in the oppositedirection until the stop or` shoulder L strikes the other side of the yoke, as in Fig. 4. This brings the eccentric to the position best shown in Fig. 5 and movesthe ink-roll intocontact with the type, the face-lineof the type being indicated in dotted lines in Figs. 4 ande, as will beevident. The parts vremain in L this ,position throughout the entire upward movement and until the carriageagain. moves downward. n Having thus described my invention, what 'l claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-
1;j In a printing-press, a carriage, arr inkroll shaft carried thereby and having a limited rotary movement relative thereto, an inkroll rotatably mountedvupon the saidv shaft, eccentrics rigid with said shaft,`andltr'ucks rotatably mounted uponl said eccentrica 2. In a printing-press, a carriage having a yoke, an ink-roll shaft rotatably mounted in said yoke and having stops or shoulders to limit the rotary movement thereof, an inkroll rotatably mounted upon said shaft, ec-
@entries mounted upon said shaft at the ends l idly secured to said shaft at the ends of said of said roll, and trucks rotatably mounted l ink-r011, and trucks rotatably mounted upon lo upon said eooentrics. said eooentrics.
3. In a printing-press, a carriage having yokes, an ink-roll shaft rotatably mounted in JOSEPH P' MARKS said yokes and provided with stops to limit Witnesses:
the rotation thereof, an ink-roll rotatably WM. CANER WIEDERSHEIM, mounted upon the said shaft, eccentries rg- C. D. MGVAY.
