FRANK P. VVILKIN, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
CARD OR SIGN HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 697,908, dated April 15, 1902.
Application filed July 6, 1901. Serial No. 67,271. (No model.)
T0 whom it 7nay'c0nccrn:
Be it known that I, FRANK P. WILKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake, State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card or Sign Holders, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Myinvention relates to holders for display cards or signs.
The objects of the invention are to produce a holder of the above class formed of two pairs of card-grasping jaws or clamps adapted to be adjusted at an angle one to the other or hung from a suitable support, to provide one of the clamps with a foot to steady it when resting flat upon a support, and to pro vide one of the jaw members with a sliding suspension-hook. These obj ectsI accomplish by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of one of my improved holders. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspectives of a pair of clamping-jaws separated, and Fig. 5 is a detail of one of the springs.
A and A designate two clamps, each formed of two members provided between their ends with ears a a, pivoted together by pins a a, on which are coiled the springs a the diverging arms of which force the jaw or grasping ends a of the clamps together in the customary manner. The inner end of one member of each clamp forms a finger-piece a and the inner ends of the other and longer members a of the clamps are pivoted together adjustably on the binding-screw B.
The ends of the clamp members a a are provided, respectively, with apertured ears on and an apertured knuckle a ,through which the said binding-screw 13 passes. By 1oosening this screw the two clamps may be moved at any desired angle to each other, and then by tightening the screw the clamps may be set in their adjusted positions. In order that one clamp may form a base to properly support the other clamp when the two are adjusted at an angle, as described, I provide the U -shaped foot 0, the legs of which pass through transverse apertures c c in the member a of one clamp.
In order to suspend the duplex clamp from any suitable support, I provide the outer side of one member a with a longitudinal sheath D, in which slides the shank d of the hook D, said shank being clamped by a setscrew (1.
In use one pair of clamping-jaws a may engage the goods and the other pair hold a sign giving the price, &c., of the goods, or the duplex clamp may be suspended by the hook D from a bolt of goods, for instance, and one or both clamps used to hold cards. In lieu of these uses the clamp A may rest horizontally on an article-as a cheese, forinstanceand the clamp A be turned up at right angles and carry a card giving name, price, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A card or sign holder comprising two members having oppositely-projecting clamping-jaws at their outer ends and hinged together at the inner ends of their body or fixed members; substantially as described.
2. A card or sign holder, comprising two longitudinally-alined clamps, two correspond ing members of which are hinged together adjustablyattheiradjacentends; substantially as described.
3. A card or sign holder, comprising two longitudinallyalined clamps, ears, and a knuckle on the adjacent ends of corresponding members of said clamps, and a set-screw passing through the said ears and knuckles; substantially as described.
4:. A card or sign holder, comprising two longitudinally-alined clamps pivoted together at the adjacent ends of corresponding members, one of said members being provided with a foot to steady it when serving as a base for the other clamp; substantially as described.
5. A card or sign holder, comprising two longitudinally-alined clamps pivoted together at the adjacent ends of two corresponding members, one of said members having transverse apertures, and a U-shaped foot, the legs of which are passed through said aper tures; substantially as described.
longitudinallydined oppositelyprojecting clamps, hinged together at the inner ends of corresponding members, a transverse sliding 15 foot, and a suspension-hook; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FRANK P. WILKIN.
