Be it known that 1, ROBERT MILLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cortland, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toilet Article, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a means for conveniently carrying articles used in sewing, to provide for repair of garments in case of accident while on excursions or traveling.

In carrying into effect the features of the invention I arrange the appurtenances for sewing in connection with a toilet articlesuch as a comb, a hair ornament, or a hatpin'-so that the toilet article will serve as a casing therefor and be adapted for use in the usual way, but permit a ready removal of the sewing implements and material as occasion my require.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described,and defined in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate'corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a side view of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a thimble constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of other novel details employed.

In efiecting the object of my invention a shank 5 is provided, which is shown broken in the drawings, butin service may be extended sulficiently to form the body of a pin that may be that portion of a hair ornament or a hat-pin, or said shank may be curtailed in length and afford means for connecting the novel details with the head portion of a backcomb.

The upper portion of the shank 5 is tubular, and said tubular portion 5 is open at the top end, the diameter of this hollow end of the shank being sufficient to adapt it to serve as a case, wherein one or more needles Cb are carried.

Upon the hollow portion 5 of the shank 5 three disks 6 7 S are mounted and secured, these being suitably spaced apart, as shown in Figs. 2 and at. The disk 8, which is farthest removed from the open end of the shank portion 5, may be of greater diameter than that of the disks 6 and 7, and on its circular edge a fine screwthread I) is formed. It will be seen that the portions of the shank intervening between the disks 6 7 8 form the bodies of two spools andthat the disks afford end flanges therefor, so that thread of two kinds may be wrapped upon these spools, as shown at c in Figs. 2 and 4..

A thimble 9 of usual form and having its end portion suitably roughened for service in sewing is provided as a casing for the spools that are formed on the end portion 5 of the shank 5, and upon the inner surface of the thimble atits edge a thread I) is formed, the internal diameter of the open end of thimole and pitch of the thread therein permitting the thimble to be screwed upon the thread I), and thus detachably connect the thimble with the disk or flange 8.

The thimble 9 may be ornamented by chasing its band-that is, at and near the open end thereof-and be formed of precious metal or be plated therewith to render it ornamental.

Obviously when in place the thimble 9 affords a head for the shank 5, protects the open end of the needle-case, and adapts the article of personal wear to be efficient in service, as well as a unique embellishment.

It is apparent that in case the wearer of the improved hair ornament or hat-pin should have occasion to repair a rent accidentally formed in an article of dress while being worn the improvement enables such temporary repairs to be effected, and thus serves the dual purpose of an article of personal use and convenient means for relieving the wearer in an emergency.

Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A toilet article embodying a shank hollow at one end forming a needle-case in said end, a plurality of disks spaced and secured on the hollow portion of the shank, thus providing thread-spools integral therewith, and a thimble-like casing removably secured on the disk farthest from the hollow end, thus affording a cover for the open end of the case and for the spools.
