To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER S. MOLEMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Estabutchie, State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Baling-Press, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved baling-press;
a nd it consistsin the peculiar construction and' combination of devices hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aside elevation of a baling-press embodying myimprovements. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, the sweep-lever being omitted. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal central sectional view of my improved press, the follower being shown in elevation. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the follower.
- The press-box 1 is horizontally disposed and comprises the ground frame 2, the upper frame 3, the bottom at, the top 5, and the sides 6. The top and bottom frames are connected together by suitable studs 7, which are on the outer sides of the sides 6, at the ends thereof, as shown. The opposite ends of the press-box are open and the same are provided with doors 8, which are hinged at their lower sides to the frame 2, as at 9, and are adapted to close the ends of the press-box. I provide suitable bars 10 to lock the doors 8 when closed. As here shown, each bar 10 is hingedly connected at one end to a support 11 and at its free end is adapted to be engaged with a locking-detent 12.
Blocks 13 are connected in pairs, one above the other, to the studs 7, and between the said pairs of blocks at the ends of the sides of the press-box are mounted direction-sheaves 14. On opposite sides of the press-box, at the center thereof, are drums 15, which are vertically disposed and are carried by vertical shafts 16, which are journaled in bearings 17, with which the frames 2 3 are provided. At the upper end of each drum-shaft is fixed a spurwheel 18. A vertical shaft 19 is journaled in bear-in gs 20 on the upperside of the press-box, at the center of the same. To the said shaft is fixed a gear-wheel 21, which engages the gears 18 and is disposed midway between them, as shown in Fig. 2. At the upper end of the shaft 19 is a socket or keeper 22, to which may be attached the innerend'of a suitable sweep-lever 23, whereby the shaft 19, with itsgcar 21, may be rotated in eitherdirection in order to rotate the drums 15.
In the press-box is a follower 2i, which may be ofany suitable construction,is doublefaced, as at 25, at its ends, and is provided with a central opening26 ,which is here shown as in a centrally-disposed block or stud 27, which connects the upper and lower sides of the follower. Inthe sides 6 of the press-box are longitudinal open-ended slots28,through which baling-wires may be passed around the 6 bales formed in opposite ends of the pressbox, and the said side's Gare further provided with slots 29. i j

shown as arope 30, is partly coiled in reverse 7o directions on the drums 15, is passed around the direction-sheaves 14 and through the central opening 26 in the follower, and through the slots 29.
\Vhen the sweep-lever 23 is turned in one direction, the follower will be moved toward one end of the press-box, and when the rotation of the sweep-lever is reversed the follower will be moved in the opposite direction toward the other end of the press-box, as will be understood, the drums which are rotated by the gears hereinbefore described acting on the rope. or flexible connecting element in such manner as to thus operate the follower.
The hay or other material to bebaled may be placed in the press-box at opposite ends thereof by means of the doors 8, and the lat ter when closed coact with the follower in compressing the hay to form bales in the ends ofthe press-box. while hay is being placed in one end of the press-box the press may be in operation to form a bale in the opposite end of the pressboX, and hence the capacity of the press is doubled, as will be understood.
