Description

I-IOVARD PARKES, OF IRVINGTON, NEV YORK.
BELT HOLDING OR ATTACHING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 693,058, dated February 11, 1902.
i Application tiled Tune 28,1901. Serial No. 66,345. (No model.) l
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, HOWARD PARKES, a citi- 'zen of the United States, residing at Irving# ton, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Holding or Attaching Devices, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to belt holding or attaching devices; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which' is particularly adapted for use in connection with gentlemens belts; and with this and other objects in view the invention consistsY in a belt attaching or holding device constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separateparts of myimprovement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which* Figure l is a back elevation of my improved belt attaching or holding device; Fig. 2, a sectional side view showing the trousers, the belt, and the attaching or holding device; and Figs. 3 and 4 are views similar to Fig. 2, each showing a modification.
In the practice of my invention I provide a belt attaching or holding device consisting of a metal band ct, which may be of any desired length, but which is preferably of a length equal to or a little greater than the width of an ordinary belt, and one side of which is provided with a transverse opening a2, whereby two separate end portions a3 and a4 are formed. The end portions a3 and a4 are at the back of the belt attaching or holding device, and the upper end portion a3 is provided with a central opening a5, with which communicates a lateral slot or opening` a6, and the lower end 'portion t4 is provided'with a vertical slot a7, centrally of which is arranged a pin or prong d8, rigidly secured to the said end portion at a9, and the opening a5 is preferably provided with an eyelet b.
Although I have described the band d as composed of metal, it will be apparent that the same may be composed of other material, and in Figs. 2 to 4, inclusive, I have shown at c the upper or waistband portion of a pair of trousers, and at d an ordinary belt, while at e I have shown a button such as in practice is connected with the trousers and serves asan attachment for a pair of Suspenders.
The button e herein shown and described iswhat is known as a bachelors button but an ordinary button may be employed, if
desired, and said button is provided with a head e2, and in practice in using my improved belt holding or attaching device the prong d8 is passed into the material of the trousers or the waistband thereof, the said holding device being preferably held in a horizontal position, after which the upper end thereof is swung around, so that the shank of the button passes through the slot or opening a into the eyelet a5. The belt (Z is then passed through th'e belt holding or attaching device, as shown in the drawings, and by means of this device any desired number may be employed, preferably one at each suspender-button, and the belt is securely held in the proper position and cannot move upwardly or downwardly.
In Fig. 3 I have also shown at g a suspenderstrap, and in Fig. 4 Athe upper end of the belt holding or attaching device is passed over the waistband portion of the trousers, and in this case thesuspenders, if worn, will he con nected with the said button inside of the waistband of the trousers.
My improvement is comparatively inexpensive and is Well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and I reserve the right to make all such alterations in the construction herein described as fairly come within the scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A belt holding or attaching device, consisting of a band or loop open at one side, one of the ends being provided with an eyelet and a laterally-directed slot communicating therewith, and the other end being provided with a vertically-arranged notch or recess, and a prong secured therein longitudinally thereof, substantially as shown and described.
2. A belt attaching or holding device consisting of an oblong band ct having a transverse opening a2 in one side thereof, one end of said band being provided with an eyclet LFI IOC
ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 22d day of June, 1901.
a5, and a lateral slot or opening a communieating therewith, the otheil end being provided With a longitudinal opening a", and a.
l pin or prong as secured therein, substantial] y 5 as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in pres,`
HOWARD PARKES.
