SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 692,146, dated January 28, 1902.

Be it known that I, ERNEST KIENE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, ,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to readymade scarfs, bows, and similar neckwear; and its object is to provide a new and improved necktie-fastener which is'simple and durable in construction and readily applied to and arranged to securely hold the tie properly in position and to allow of removing the tie at any time and replacing it by another of the same or of a different style.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will he fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is Figure l is a perspective View. of the neck! hand. Fig. 2 is a like view of the necktiebody applied on the neckband. Fig. 3 is an inside view of the same, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section of the same on the line 4,4.- in Fig. 3.

The improved necktie-fastener consists, essentially, of a band A, preferably made of a spring material, such as steel, inclosed'in a suitable fabric covering, as shown at din Fig. 3, or painted or otherwise ornamented. One end A of the band A is turned back or doubled up, as shown in Fig. l, and the said band is adapted to pass through a loop B', formed on the back of the necktie-body B, of any proper construction. The loop B' is moved to the end of the band A, so that the doubled-up portion A extends on the back of the loop, as plainly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and in applying the necktie-fastener on the Wearers neck-the band is passed around the collar, and then the free end of the band A is passed into the loop B', as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4t.

The middle portion of the doubled-up end Al is preferably formed with a notch A2, ex` tending from the top edge downward, to engage the shank of the collar-button to prevent the necktie from slipping up on the collar claim as new and desire when in use. By having the doubled-up end A the necktie-body B is prevented from accidentally slipping over t'he band A, and at the same time the doubled-up end forms a means to prevent the necktie from creeping up on the collar by the notch A2 engaging the shank of the collar-button. By making the band A of a spring material it readily fits the collar and byvits closing tendency holds the necktie-body in proper position on the front of the collar.

From the foregoing it is evident that the user of the tie can readily slip the necktiebody olf the band A and replace it by another of the same or of a different style.

Having thus described my invention, I to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A necktie-fastener composed of a strip of material bent into approximately circular form constituting a neckband and having one end of the strip returned for a short distance within the band, such returned portion extending adjacent to and approximately parallel with that portion of the band within which it lies, and terminating at its free end adjacent to the body of the band and provided in the upper edge of said returned portion with a notch for engagement by the shank of a collar-button as set forth.

2. The combination of a necktie having a loop at the back, and the collar-button, of the holder composed of a strip of material formed into a neckband and having one end returned for a short distance within the band and extending outside of the loop at the back of the tie and provided in the edge of said returned portion with a notch for engagement by the collar-button, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A necktie-fastener, comprising a neckband of spring material for engaging a collar and a loop of a necktie, the said band having one end turned back or doubled up on the outside of the loop at the back of the tie, the said doubled-up end having a notch for engaging a collar-button, as set forth. y
