Description

(Application filed Apr. 24, 1901.) (No Model.)
"n4: Moms PETERS wu pfro-urno v nsmumou. ay 9 UNITED dramas Parent LOUISA ZIEGELMEYE R, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
VEGETABLE CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,918, dated December 17, 1901. Application filed April 24, 1901. Serial No. 57,213- (No model.)
To (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUISA ZIEGELMEYER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable-Cutters; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in vegetable'slicers, and has for its object to provide a novel and effectual implement by means of which such vegetables as potatoes, apples, and the like may be conveniently and quickly sliced.
Briefly described, the invention consists of a curved blade which at one end terminates in a spiral screw that engages in the core or heart of the vegetables, with the other end terminating in an angular projection forming a handle, as will be hereinafter specifically described, and pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the slicer, showing the same in the position it occupies in cutting or slicing a vegetable. Fig. 2 is a front elevation illustrating the appearance of Fig. 3 is a de- Fig. 4. is

an enlarged cross-sectional view thereof. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the operation of the slicer.
The device comprises a flat curved blade 1, provided along one of its edges with aknifeedge 2. This blade 1 at its one end terminates in a spiral screw 3, which is adapted to be inserted into the core of the vegetable and hold the slicer, and the other end of the blade is turned outwardly at right angles to the body of the blade to form a handle 4 by means of which the slicer may be held and operated. Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings illustrate the screw 3 as inserted into the core of the vege table 5, and when this has been done the slicer is revolved by means of the handle 4, separating the vegetable into slices 6, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, but not entirely separating the same from the vegetable, there being sufficient of the core or heart of the vegetable left intact to hold the slices 6 intact in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A vegetable-cutter comprising a wire having a semicircular cuttingedge, one end of said wire being bent to form a handle, its other end turned into a coil and adapted to engage the core of a vegetable, whereby as the handle is rotated, said cutting edge has a sliding draw out on a curve in the vegetable, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
