UNITED STATES PATENT -OFEICE.
THEODORE H. FISHEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HENRY W.
FISHEL AND-THEODORE H. FISHEL, OF NENV YORK, N. Y., COPART- NERS UNDER FIRM-NAME FISHEL, NESSLER 8: CO.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,690, dated November 12, 1901.
Application filed July 18, 1900.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE H. FISHEL, of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to buckles specially adapted for ladies belts, neckbands, and like articles.
The invention consists in the combination, in a buckle, of a frame provided with openings through which portions of the belt or band may be passed, a front piece movably connected with said frame and serving when in one position to secure the belt or band therein, and a catch for fastening the two parts of the buckle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of a belt of ribbonor like material having its end portions united by a buckle embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a front View of the buckle with its front piece opened or moved away from its frame. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the buckle, and it also includes a representation of ribbon or like material forming a belt.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates a belt made of ribbon or like material. Of difierent proportions it would serve as a neckband.
B designates a buckle comprising a back frame h and a front piece 713, connected at one point by a hinge 71. and fastened at an opposite point by a catch h M, consisting, as here shown, of a pin h, pivotally connected to the frame 71., so that it may swing in a plane parallel therewith, and a hook h extending from the rear of the front piece, so that the said pin it may be readily engaged and disengaged with reference to it. Both parts h k of the buckle may be made of metal or other suitable material. The frame It has a number of openings, of which in the present instance there are three, h h h They are circular. The openings h h are Serial No. 24,057. (No model.)
relatively smaller than the opening h because each of them receives only one portion of the belt A, whereas the opening h receives both portions after their passage through the openings h if. The front piece when closed and fastened serves to clamp the portions of the belt, so that they will not slide. It may advantageously be provided upon its rear side with a boss h", adapted to enter the opening 71. of the frame h, so as to clamp the two portions of the belt within the said opening it Obviously changes of detail might be made without departing from the principle of my invention. For instance, the frame might have a different number of openings and the end portions of the ribbon or like material might be passed in various ways through openings in the frame.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a buckle the combination of a frame provided with triangularly arranged openings, two of which openings receive single portions of ribbon or like material and another both the portions of ribbons passed through said two openings, a front piece hinged thereto, a catch for fastening the front piece and the frame together, and a boss carried by the front piece for clamping both portions of the ribbon in the said opening receiving them.
2. In a buckle, the combination of a frame provided with a plurality of openings, through which single portions of ribbon are passed and crossed, a front piece hinged thereto, a catch for fastening the frame and front piece together, and a boss. carried by the front piece and engaging the crossed ribbons for clamping both portions of the ribbon.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEODORE H. FISI-IEL.
