` MASSAGE GLOVE.

UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
REUBEN E. SAFFOLD, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
MAssAe E-G LOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of' Letters Patent No. 686,638, dated November 12, 1901.
Application iiled May 2, 1901.
To @ZZ whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, REUBEN E. SAFFOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massage-Gloves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
' which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a toilet article in the nature of 'a glove, ribbed or corrugated longitudinally or otherwise for massage purposes and equipped with a receptacle for applying face or toilet powder.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective of back of glove. Fig. 2 is a plan View of outside of glove open. Fig. 3 is a crosssection of Fig. 1 through line o: fr.' Fig. 4. is a cross-section of glove open, showe ing powder-receptacle and cover.
The glove is made of a fiat piece of flexible material, preferably rubber, shaped as shown in Fig. 2. The surface of the inside is smooth and at the center is molded an upward-extending circular flange. (Shown in Fig. Il at a.) A cap or cover b, made to fit the flange, forms the top of the receptacle in which the powder is placed. The said cap or cover'b is removable and can be taken off and readj usted quickly and without the slightest trouble, allowing the manipulator to easily refill the receptacle or to change the powder. The bottom portion of this receptacle is perforated, as shown in Fig. 2 at c, allowing the powder to sift through when the glove is in use.
The outside of the glove is ribbed or corrugated longitudinally, as shown in Fig. 2. This surface massages the face and also cleanses and puriies the skin.
In Fig. 2, d is a metallic button, e an opening with metallic rim made to fit overbutton Serial No. 58,437. (No model.)
i d, and f is a metallic top to cover button d in the manner of a glove-fastening. d and e are turned back, the button d placed through opening e, and f turns down and clasps the button d, as shown in Fig. 1.
The fingers are placed in the glove, as shown in Fig. 1 and when in use the powder contained in the receptacle@ sifts through the perforation c and is in this manner applied to the parts massaged.
The glove consists of asingle blank of iiexible material, preferably rubber, said blank consisting of an elongated body portion d to e, the ends of which are adapted to be folded over and secured together, as above described and shown in the drawings. blank also has the laterally-extending portion c to f, which is also adapted to be folded over and secured to the ends of the body portion, asshown in Fig. 1, thereby forming the receptacle for the fingers. The advantage of this construction is that when the glove is manipulated the fingers are entirely covered and cannot come in contact with the face or portion being massaged.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is=
1. A glove consisting of a single blank having perforations, a circular ange located on the inner side of the gloveV and surrounding to fit over said iiange.
2. A glove consisting of a single blank, said Vblank having an elongated body portion, the ends of which are adapted'to be folded together and secured, and a laterally-extending portion also adapted to be folded over and secured to the ends of the body portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
REUBEN E. SAFFOLD.
