UNITED STATES PATENT Orrick".
ALFRED C. EINSTEIN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ACETYLENE-GAS GENERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 684,048, dated October 8, 1901. Application filed November 30, 1900. Serial No. 38,116. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, ALFRED C. EINsTEiN, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the cityof St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Acetylene-Gas Generators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to generators for use in producing acetylene gas, the invention having particular reference to means for restricting the outlet of the liquid-feed tube.
Myinvention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I is a view showing the generatorcasing in vertical section and the remainder of the generator in elevation. Fig. II is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the feed-tube and the liquid-outlet. Fig. III is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken on line III III, Fig. II.
1 designates the generator-casing, of any desirable shape or form of construction. At the lower endwof the 'casing is the gas-chamber A, at the bottom of which a carbid B is placed. Above the chamber A is the liquidreservoir 2, and above the liquid-reservoir is an auxiliary gas-chamber 3.
4 designates a liquid-feed tube that communicates with the liquid-reservoir 2 and is provided with a shut-od valve 5 and a draincock, both of which are preferably located exterior of the generator-casing. 7 designates an uptake member of the feed-tube, which extends upwardly Within the generator-casing and is open to communication with the auxiliary gas-chamber 3.
8 designates an outlet member forming a part of the uptake member 7 of the feed-tube, said member being preferably in the form of a T-union, as shown in Figs. I and II. Applied to the neck 9 of the member 8 is a cap 10, provided with a central aperture that receives a tube 1l positioned therein. The
12 designates a pair of wires located in the tube 11 and having inner outturned ends 13, that project beyond the inner end of the tube 11 into the interior of the uptake member 7 of the feed-tube of the outlet member that forms a part of said uptake. The wires 12 are also provided with outturned ends 14,that project beyond the outer end of the tube 11. These wires partially fill the space within the tube 11, thereby restricting the passage-way therethrough and rendering it possible to cause the liquid in the feed-tube to be discharged from the outer ends of the wires and fall therefrom to the carbid within the gen- Afrom the carbid may be conveyed into said auxiliary chamber to pass into the open upper end of the extension of the feed-tube and exert back pressure upon the liquid in said tube to carry said liquid away from the lower ends of the Wires l2 at the feed-tube outlet, and thereby stop the discharge of liquid when the production of gas becomes excessive. v
I claim as my invention- Y In a gas-generator, the combination of a casing, a liquid-reservoir, a liquid-feed tube leading from said reservoir, an outlet member carried by said feed-tube, a cap affixed to said outlet member, a tube mounted in said cap and extending into said member, and a pair of wires located in said tube, said wires serving to restrict said outlet, substantially as described.
ALFRED C. EINSTEIN.
In presence of- E. S. KNIGHT, M. P. SMITH.
