CIRCULAR SAWING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,558, dated May 21, 1901. Application filed January 25, 1901. Serial No. 44,744. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,ADOLF HILLMANN,a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Herne, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Circular Sawing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in circular sawing machines, and has for its object to provide means for preventing the sawblade from being heated by the getting hot of the shaft and simultaneously allowing a free dilatation of the blade.
My invention is illustrated by the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a circular saw and its shaft according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of this construction, the shaft being shown in section on the line a: a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows the same side view with the one part of two-parted shaft removed.
The shaft consists of two parts a and b, which are suitably journaled in bearings a and b. A disk 0 is centrally fastened to the end of part a, and a similar disk 0 is provided in the same manner on the adjacent end of part b of said shaft. Both the disks 0 and a have a cover of asbestos or the like 01 and 01', so as to form a non-heat-conducting layer between the shaft and the saw-blade to be fastened between said disks cand c. The sawblade f has a central hole g and a suitable number of slots h, (four as shown,) radiating therefrom and fitting over an equal number of squared bolts 6, which serve to screw the disks 0 and c firmly against each other. In assembling the parts the asbestos covers 01 d are laid on the disks 0 0. Then the saw-blade f is brought centrally therebetween, with its slots h fitting over the squared bolts e, provided on the periphery of disk 0, and finally the nuts of said bolts e, which bolts pass through suitably-corresponding holes in the periphery of disk 0, are firmly screwed on.
It is obvious that anygetting hot of the shaft with regard to the asbestos layers can never produce a heating of the blade thus mounted and that the blade has a free dilatation even against its center point, owing to the slot arrangement and the hole spared out in its center. Otherwise, it will be clearly seen that every saw-blade which is provided with said slot attachment may be mounted on said two-parted shaft, because, as hitherto, the diameter of the shaft and of the hole in the blade, the distance of the stud from the center, and the like are not requirements for blades to be used on a shaft according to my invention.
Having now described my invention, I claim 1. In an improvement in circular sawing machines, the combination with a blade having a hole spared out in its center and slots radiating therefrom of a two-parted shaft, disks formed on the adjacent ends of the two parts of said shaft, non-heat-conducting covers on said disks and bolts for screwing the disks, covers and the blade therebetween together and fitting through said slots in said blade, substantially as described.

In an improvement in circular sawing machines, the combination of a two-parted shaft, bearings supporting said shaft, a disk mounted centrally on the end of one part of said shaft, a similar disk equally mounted on the adjacent end of the other part of the shaft, a cover of asbestos on each of said disks, squared bolts for screwing said disks together and a saw-blade centrally mounted between said disks and covers, said blade having slots radiating from its central hole and fitting over said squared bolts, substantially as described.
