No. 670,647 Patented Mar. 26; law.
F. K. STEPHENS. TICKET HOLDER FOB CAB SEATS.

(N o Model.)-
WITNESSES: S INVENTOR VATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK K. STEPHENS, OF SAYRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
TICKET-HOLDER FOR CAR-SEATS! SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 670,647, dated March 26, 1901. Application filed August 1, 1899. Serial No. 725,732. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK K. STE- PHENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sayre, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ticket-Holder for Gar-Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ticket-holders which are designed to be attached to the top rim of car-seat backs or elsewhere for the purpose of receiving and displaying the passengers ticket or conductors trip-slip in a conspicuous and convenient place.
The object of my improvements is to provide a simple, cheap, and durable article of this description which may be fitted down flush upon the rim of the car-seat back or other place of attachment, so as to present a.
smooth surface without unseemly projections. I attain my object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a portion of a car-seat back with my ticket-holder in place; Fig. 2, a plan View of the holder; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 4 a detail showing the spring-strap.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A represents a car-seat back, to thetop rim of which is secured a plate B, of brass or other.
suitable material, curved orotherwise shaped to conform with the rim of the seat-back. A narrow strap D, of thin spring-steel or other suitable material, is run longitudinally along the center of the top of plate B, passingbeneath the end portions thereof through the slots 0 0, being provided with holes to register with the screw-holes at the ends of the plate. One or both holes in the strap D may be elongated, as illustrated in Fig. 4, in order that the tension of the strap upon the top of the plate may be regulated as desired. Preferably I use countersunk screws, as shown-in Fig. 3, in order to present a smooth and flush top surface, the screws at the ends holding both the plate and the strap in place. By letting up on the screw at the end where the strap D isslotted the strap D may be raised from the plate B or made to hug it tightly, as desired. In the illustration I have shown the plate B slightly curved, as this is the usual form of a car-seat rim, and as said seats are usually covered with plush it will be seen that the plate and strap D will set down into the plush, so as to present no undesirable projections. Where the rim is of wood, the plate B may be set down into the wood in the same manner. The holder may be placed elsewhere on the seat-back or on the side of the car.
In use the strap D is set so as to permit the ticket to be readily slipped between it and the plate B, as indicated in Fig. 1, its adjustment being readily accomplished, as heretofore described.
Having thus described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A ticket-holder comprising a stiff baseplate, a spring-strap narrower than said plate running longitudinally along the top thereof and passing beneath the end portions of the plate through slots provided therefor, and screws passing through the plate and strap at each end to secure the holder in place, one of the holes through the spring-strap being slotted as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
FREDERICK K. STEPHENS.
