Be it known that I, OLIVINE H. OAsHIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and usefulImprovements in Pillow-Sham Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to pillow-Shams, the object being to provide an improved construction for such articles embodying therein improved means for supporting the same at the head of a bed and generally a construction that is economical; and the invention consists in an improved frame for said articles, together with improved means for attaching the curtain of the frame thereto.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a pillow-sham frame embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the head portion of a bedstead and of the end of,

a mattress and shows a section of the said frame on line 2 2, Fig. 1, an end view of a pillow thereon and of the curtain, and illustrating the relative positions of said frame, pillow, and curtain, and the bed and mattress parts when the pillow-sham is applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rear side of the upper end of the pillow-sham, showing the positions of the curtain-securing straps or ribbons previous to uniting the ends thereof.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates the frame of the pillow-sham, constructed, preferably, of metal rods or bars, said frame comprising a main rectangular portion 2, the upper horizontal bar of which has its extremities extending somewhat beyond the vertical side bars, and the bar 3 parallel with said upper bar, the extremities of said parallel bars being united by the forwardly-projecting U- shaped loops 4, which serve a useful purpose, hereinafter set forth. Said frame A includes, further, the horizontal bar 6 (the ends of which are permanently fixed to the vertical bars of said main frame portion near the lower end thereof, as shown) and also the frame part intermediate of said side and upper bar consisting of the rod 5, whose upper extremities are fixed to said parallel bars and have their ends bent forwardly over the front sides of said bars, forming the loops 7 7, hereinafter referred to, and the lower portion J extending above the lower end of the frame forwardly from the back of said horizontal bar 6 and constituting a frame-supporting arm which, as shown in Fig. 2, rests upon the top of the end of the mattress E, thus supporting the frame A vertically, while the portion K of the latter below said bar 6 extends downwardly between the head B and .the end of the mattress, whereby the lower end of the frame A is securely held against the head part of the bedstead, as shown.

Referring to Fig. 3, which illustrates the rear side of the upper end of the frameAand the upper end of the rear side of the curtain O,

the curtain-fastening straps or ribbons 8 8 are there shown secured by one end to said curtain and passing from thence into said end loops 4 4, in which said straps are so engaged that the curtain cannot slide downward or become displaced, and from said loops 44 said straps pass between said rectangular portion 2 of the frame and the bars 3 and through said loops 7 7 and are united by tying or otherwise, thus firmly securing the upper end of said curtain to the pillow-sham frame in such a manner as obviates all danger of displacement.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

l. A pillow-sham frame having horizontal and vertical portions for engaging, respec tively, the top side and the end of a mattress, whereby said frame is held in a fixed vertical position, and is retained in position against the head of a bedstead, substantially as described.

2. A pillow-sham frame consisting of the vertical rectangular frame formed by the rods 2, a rod 3 parallel with the upper edge of said frame and united thereto by the loops 4 and 7; the transverse rod 6 extending between the vertical sides of said rectangular frame, and the frame part J lying at right angles to the said rectangular frame, substantially as described.

3. A pillow-sham frame consisting of the vertical rectangular frame formed by the rods 2, means for securing the curtain of said frame thereto comprising the rod constituting the upper border of said frame, and the rod 3; loops 4 and 7 for securing said rod 3 to said frame, combined with curtain attaching straps 8, one end of each of which is secured to said curtain and engages said loops 4, the free ends of said straps passing through said loops 7 and adapted to be tied centrally back of said frame, substantially as described.

4. A pillow-sham frame comprising a main rectangular portion, the upper horizontal bar of which has its extremities extending beyond the vertical side bars thereof, a bar 3 paral lel with said upper bar, the extremities of main frame portion extending below said arm- I like part for engagement between the end of a mattress and the head of a bedstead, substantially as described.
