ALFRED O. ABRAMSON AND lVILLIAM PERSON, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
SEWlNG -IVIACHINE CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 670.126, dated March 19, 1901.
Application filed June 2 5, 19 00.
To n/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALFRED O. ABRAM- sON and W'ILLIAM PERSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of sewing-machine cabinets in which the platform has an extension which is moved through a connection with the lid.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of our improved sewing-machine cabinet in which the lid is open and the twopart platform in the position it occupies when the machine is in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view, the lid being removed and the two-part platform dropped down to receive the machine within the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on dotted line a, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on dotted line b, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view of the connection between the two-part platform and main frame. Fig. 6 is an isometrical representation of the twopart platform.
The main frame consists of the top 1, frame 2, having an opening 3, a lid 4, hinged to the frame, a back 5, and ends 6. The opening 3 is closed by a platform 7 and platform extension 8, hinged together, and the platform 7, hinged to the frame 2. A spring 9, secured to the platform 7, bears against the platform extension 8 and holds it in position shown at Fig. 4. The ends of the platform and platform extension have projections 10, which when in the position shown at Fig. 3 come in contact with a like projection on the main frame, thereby forming a stop to the upward movement of the platform and platform ex-. tension. The free edge of the platform extension has a V-shaped projection 11, which enters a correspondingopening 12 in the frame 2 and holds that side of the platform extension 8 rigid as against downward movement while the machine is in use. A front leaf 13 has a pivotal connection at its upper end with the ends of the main frame, and when the machine is not in use it rests against the stops 14;
To the under face of the platform 7 is secured a rod 15, and upon this rod is pivoted an arm 16, supporting a rubber-faced roller 17 at its free end. A yoke 18 has a pivotal connection with the roller 17, and to the yoke Serial No. 21,516.. (No model.)
is secured a band 19, which extends upward and over a pulley 20 and connected to the hinged lid 4. When the lid is closed, the roller 17 will be in the position shown at Fig. 4, and when the lid is opened the roller will be raised, and as it runs against the back of the cabinet the arm 16, forming a connection between the roller and platform, will cause the platform and platform extension to rise until the free edge of the platform extension 8 comes in contact with the frame, when it will slide along and enter the \l-shaped notch, and the parts will appear as shown at Fig. 3.
A chain 21 forms a connection between the arm 16 and the front leaf 13, and as the platform and platform extension are raised movement will be imparted to the front leaf.
The pulley 22 (shown in dotted lines) is the driving-pulley of the sewing-machine,and the wheel 23 (shown in dotted lines) is the wheel of the foot-power. A belt 24 (shown in dotted lines) connects the wheels, and when the machine is lowered within the cabinet the belt will remain on the wheels and when the machine is raised the belt will be tightened.
The belt passes through openings in the platform 7 and through an opening in the front leaf 13.
The sewing-machine is connected to the platform 7 in the usual manner.
We claim as our invention- 1. In a sewing-machine cabinet, the combination of a top, a platform and a platform extension hinged thereto, a lid, an arm pivoted to the platform supporting a roller and a connection between the arm and lid.
2. In a sewing-machine cabinet, the combination of a top, a platform and a platform extension hinged thereto, a lid, an arm pivoted to the platform supporting a roller, the roller bearing against a stationary portion of the cabinet, and a connection between the arm and lid.
3. In a sewing-machine cabinet the combination of a top, a platform hinged to the top,
a platform extension hinged to the platform,
the extension provided with a side projection, the cabinet having a recess to receive the projection and a spring connection between the extension and platform.
