SIG NAL-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 667,124, dated January 29, 190] Application iiled August 31, 1900. Serial No. 28,679. (No model.)
T a/ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, HENRY F. FREED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signal-Boxes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a signal-box, and more particularly to a box designed for use in connection with the electric safe-protective system shown and described in my application for patent filed simultaneously herewith, Serial No. 28,677.
One object of the invention is to provide a signal-box of this character Which shall be of such construction as to prevent the alarm therein being tampered with or disconnected from the box, while at the same time not appreciably lessening the volume of sound caused by said alarm.
A further object is to provide a box which shall be of such construction as to contain a signal-light the rays of which are reiiected through the cover of the box'.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of the signal-box, showing the door thereof closed; and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the door.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes the signal-box, from which leads the wires of the circuits controlling the bell and lamp signals.
As the present invention resides in the construction of the cover for the signal-box, it is not thought necessary to show the circuitwires.
2 denotes a cover hinged to the box. This cover is preferably cast in one piece and has an outwardly-projecting chamber 3, across the lower end of which extends a partition 4, dividing the chamber into two compartments a, and h. The base c of the chamber has an inclination corresponding to that of the partition 4 and is formed with a longitudinal opening 5. That portion of the chamber above the partition 4 is formed with a series of sound-emitting perforations 6.
7 denotes a lamp-socket secured to one of the end walls of the compartment h, and 8 denotes a lamp connected to said socket and arranged above the opening and in a direct line therewith. A reflector 9 may be secured to the under side of the partition 4, so as to reflect the rays of light from the lamp out through the opening 5.
l0 denotes an electric bell, the base-board of which is secured to one of the walls of the chamber within the compartment a.
When the circuit or circuits in which the bell and lamp are included are completed, the bell will be sounded and the lights turned on. The sound will escape through the perforations in the cover, and the light will be reflected through the opening at the lower end of the chamber.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention Will be readily understood without requiring an extended explanation. The device is exceedingly useful for the purpose for which it is designed and may be placed upon the market at a comparatively small cost.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a signal-box, of a cover therefor provided with an outwardlyprojecting chamber formed with sound-emitting perforations in one of its walls and with a light-displaying aperture, and an electric bell and lamp secured within said chamber, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a signal-box, of a cover therefor provided with an outwardlyprojecting chamber, the front wall of which is provided with sound-emitting apertures and the lower Wall of which is provided with a light-dis playing opening, a partition extending across the chamber dividing it into IOO two compartments, a reector secured to the I my hand in presence of two subscribing wit,- partition above the lghtdisplaying aperture, messes. an electric lamp located in the compartment T 1 below the partition and its reiieetor, and an l HENRX I" FREILD' 5 electricbell loeatedin the otherconlpztrtment, Witnesses:
substantially as set forth. BENJ. G. COWL,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set SAML. A. DRURY.
