THOMAS JOHN HAOKETT, OF WARDNER, IDAHO.
CH ECK-VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 664,146, dated December 18, 1900.
Application filed October 9, 1900. Serial No. 32,530. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that LTHoMAs JOHN HACKETT,
a citizen of the United States, and a residentv of Wardner, in the county of Shoshone and State of Idaho, have invented a new and Improved Check-Valve, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved check-valve, which is simple and durable in construction, very effective in operation, and more especially designed for use on steam-boilers, and arranged to prevent leakage and avoidiexpensive regrinding.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure l is a sectional side elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the valve with the several parts in a detached position.
The improved check-valve is provided with a valve-body A, having the usual inlet B and the outlet C, a conical valve-seat D being between the said inlet and said outlet. A valve E is adapted to be seated on the valve-seat D and operates between screw-caps F and G, screwing in the top and bottom of the body A, as is plainly shown in Fig. l. The valve E consists, essentially, of a conical core E', formed on its top with an annular flange E2, and from the said core extends upwardly an integral stem E3, mounted to slide in a tubular extension F, depending from the cap F and forming an integral part thereof, as is plainly shown in Fig. 1.
On the core E' is fitted a conically-shaped ring E4, made of rubber or other suitable ilexible material, the ring being held in place on said core between the dan ge E2 and a flange E5, formed on the stem E6, having a threaded portion E7, projecting upwardly from the ange and screwingintoa threaded recess E8,formed in the under side of the core E'. When the ring E4 is fitted upon the core E and the threaded end E7is screwed into said core, then the ring Elis securely held in position on the core between the Hau ges E2andE5. The stem E6 is mounted to slide in a tubular extension G', projecting upwardly from the cap G, it being understood that the stems Esand E6 are in alinement with each other, and the tubular extensions F G are likewise in alinement. By the arrangement described the valve E is free to slide up or down by being guided with its stems E5 and Ein the tubular extensions FI G of the caps F and G.V
The valve E is preferably made in sections to permit convenient removal of the ring E4 in case the latter is worn out and a new one is to be placed in position on the core.
In order to allow convenient nnscrewing of the stem E6 from the core E', I prefer to make the ends of the stems E3 and Fli withconical recesses E9 to allow easy application of a wrench or similar tool.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A check-valve, comprising a valve-body having an inlet and an outlet, a conical valveseat between the inlet and outlet, caps screwing in said body and having elongated, inwardly-projecting tubular bearings or guideways, a valve having a conical core with an integral Iiange, a stem engaging one of said tubular guideways, a second stem having a ange and a threaded end screwing in said core, said second stem engaging the other tubular bearing or guideway, and a conical ring of ieXible material tting on said valve-core between the said flanges, as set forth.
2. A check-valve, comprising a valve-body having an inlet and an outlet, a conical valveseat between the inlet and outlet, caps screwing in said body and having elongated, inwardly-proj ectin g tubular bearings or guide- 'ways, a valve having a conical core with an integral flange, a stem engaging one of said tubular guideways, a second stem having a flange and a threaded end screwing in said core, said second stem engaging the other tubular bearing or guideway, and a conical ring of flexible material litt-ing on said conical core between the said flanges, the ends of the stems of the valve being polygonal for the applicat-ion of a Wrench to separate the parts of the Valve, as set forth.
3. A valve, comprising a core having an integral flange and a Valve-Stem integral with the core, a removable Valve-stem having a flange and a threaded end for screwing in said core, and a ring fitted on the core between 1o said flanges, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name ro this speoication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS JOHN HACKETT.
