APPAREL-BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 659,022, dated October 2, 1900. Application filed J 11116 21, 1900. Serial No. 21,048. (No model.)
To all whom, it may cancer-70:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV H. GENTZEL,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident to provide a belt with a new and improved device for detachably connecting the belt with a button on the waistband of a skirt or other article of apparel, the said device and belt being secured immovably together at one point and having a sliding connection with each other at another point, so as to permit the ready attachment and removal of the button and so as not to interfere in any respect with the set of the belt when engaged with the button.
A further object is to provide a very cheap and simple construction andone which will successfully withstand great strains, to which supporting-belts of this character are subjected.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a belt with my improved waist-button-attaching device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section through a portion of the belt and the attaching device, taken in the plane of the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 2, showing the manner of buckling the belt outwardly away from the attaching device by sliding the loose connection between the belt and the device inwardly toward the fixed connection for facilitating the insertion of the waist-button.
The belt is denoted as a whole by A', and it may be of any suitable style, shape, and material. A pair of cross-straps a a are secured to the inside of the belt at the back thereof, these cross-straps being preferably secured to the belt at their opposite ends only.-
The attaching device is shown as comprising a flexible strip or plate B, of metal or other suitable material, and it is provided with an elongated slot 1), extending lengthwise therein for receiving the shank of a waistbutton. (Not shown herein.) This device B is further provided with a button-receiving opening I), communicating with the slot at one end thereof, the said opening I) being of a size sufficient to permit the ready insertion of a button therethrough without bending or displacing any portion of the device. One end of the device is permanently secured to the cross-strap a, of the belt by means of a rivet 13 which passes through the plate and the cross-strap. The belt and the other end of the attaching device have a sliding connection with each other by loosely connecting the device to the cross-strap a by means of a rivet b which passes through the slot b, near one end thereof, and also through the said cross-strap a. The button-receiving opening 1) may communicate with the slot at other points along its length than that shown, if so desired.
By theuse of the device hereinabove described, which is provided with a buttonshank receiving elongated slot and a buttonreceiving opening communicating therewith, I am enabled to readily insert and remove the waist-button without spreading the device.
Because of the limited sliding connection between one part of the device and the belt while the other part of the device is secured firmly against movement with respect to the belt I am enabled to produce quite a bend in the belt at the back of the device by sliding the loose connection between the belt and the device inwardly along the slot 1) for stillfurther facilitating the insertion and removal of the button. When the button has been inserted into its position between the device and the back of the belt, the belt may be drawn snugly around the body of the wearer and will preserve its shape even at the. point of attachment of the button thereto.
It is evident that changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement 0f the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the structure herein set forth; but
What I claim is 1. The combination with a belt, of a waistbutton-attaching device located along the in side of the belt, the said belt and attaching device being secured im movably together at one point and having a sliding connection with each other at another point, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination With a belt having a pair of cross-straps spaced apart and secured thereto, of a waist-button-attaching device having one end secured rigidly to one of the cross-straps and having its other end loosely secured to the othercross-strap, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a belt, of a waistbutton-attaching device located along the inside of the belt, comprising a flat strip of flexible material having an elongated buttonreceiving slot therein and a button-receiving openingcommunicating with the said sl0t,the said belt and attaching device being secured immovably together at one point and having 26 GUSTAV H. GENTZEL. Witnesses:
